This has a potential to impact other western states as well. Condors were introduced into Arizona and have been reported in other western states. Please write and let the Commission know that you're not pleased with this attempt at an end run around the legislative process.

well not an all out ban and I haven't hunted in awhile due to disabiltiy but don't other states also have the "non lead" mainly for shotgun shells already in existance. Seems like we already can only use steel or tungston shot right now........
To: NorCalRepub
In South Dakota its illegal to hunt water fowl with lead shot.

well I don't think that is what this is about but that crap won't fly not even in Calif. There are millions of gun owners here including myself and not all Dems are "liberal" in that context. I know at least 10 guys from the gym who are Conservative Dems and they all own handguns....This article said nothing about banning weapons. I think you are getting ahead of yourself
To: Redcloak
Sorry you live in such a backwards state. Have you considered moving to Arkansas?

How inclined would you be to buy a spiffy new neutered Glock 21 .45ACP handgun if the only ammo you could legally use for it costs
81 cents a round at CheaperThanDirt? And that's only until they get around to banning hollow-point ammo.

well if that were on the agenda I'd be out protesting ASAP but it going there....and "cheapre than dirt" is a great place to buy ammo......sometimes bulk .308 at midway.. anyway, none of the stuff you say would fly here and if they even tried it we would put out an initiative and it would pass for sure.......I guarantee it
To: Redcloak
The most simple solution to this is for California hunters to get out there and shoot those Condors.
Then they won't have any habitat.

CA Condors are an extinct species anyway. (It's just that the last few surviving examples aren't quite dead yet.) It's been replaced by the turkey buzzard and other carrion eaters. Lead ammo isn't what did it in. The end of the last ice age started its long, slow decline.

This isn't about condors, it says 'all raptors'.
That's everything from a kestrel to bald eagles.
It is however, a serious back door attempt to regulate out of existence all commercial ammunition in the State of California. First, they did it with shotgun ammo when they banned the use of lead shot over water by waterfowlers. Thus the precedent was set.
Nobody but duck hunters complained, and it didn't matter that at the time not one commercial ammo manufacturer had actually developed a 'non-toxic' shot that actually performed as well as lead. It also didn't matter that the form of lead used in shot doesn't harm the environment.
So now the antis are taking the next logical step. If they can ban lead shot over water, why shouldn't they be able to ban lead shot on land?
One thing leads to another...
