We should hang that skipper of the SSN San Francisco for running into that undersea peak that wasn't on his new charts.

These "pointless academic expeditions" usually have useful side effects.

By all means, let the enviromentalists remove all sonar from their boats, so that they can lead the way in this initiative.

And I suggest that they check their life boats out, because they are going to need them when they sink their stupid arses on some reef and poison the fish with their bilge water.

Any officer that breaks a Navy ship is toast. At least for the last 40 years. Having said that the original post was about dinosaur extinction. If that is just a secret shadow explanation then I am on their side. Seems like everyone is trying to justify this operation because it is not anything like what is being advertised as its purpose.

One of my old profs did some of the original work on this impact crater.

Although generally opposed to outrageous gov't funding for purely academic purposes, the K-T extinction was one of the most important events in the history of the Earth.

We too will most likely be wiped out one day by an asteroid collision, so I think this one's worth studying.
