The real question is why should any of us have to ponder it at all?

After all there was a time when we just about had TB beat in this country. Of course that was before we quit taking our border enforcement responsibilities seriously.

I can't wait for someone who catches TB to sue the feds for not protecting them.

It'll be sweet, sweet justice.

$100 for four hours seems very high.

People in Colorado are paying health care premiums of $1100 a month in order to cover the cost of unpaid immigrants, legal and illegal.

I don't see that as a responsive answer. I also note that you have been posting today just as long as I have.

Oh, yeah, I also have sufficient medical background that I don't need to spend extra time on it.

I pay my maid $100 for 4 hours of work every other week.

Wow, that is a good wage. Too bad I don't live by you, I'd do it, and I clean really well! ;)

Nice.

What type of charges might be available? Who would be the target?

Real question, absolutely not sarcasm.

I know you do [i.e., root for Walmart and China]. Well, I root for America and the American worker.

Walmart is America. Unions are socialism at it's best.

No, Walmart is the retail end of your beloved China. Indeed, if you start from the vantage point of what is best for China at America's direct expense, everything you have said makes perfect sense.

No kidding, me too. Most cleaning women in our area make $6.00 to $7.50 an hour. Oh, and they're not illegal aliens.

I don't believe that for a second. $25 an hour is alot higher than I have paid and I have no problem finding legals to do work.

It depends on who you'd go after. A lawyer friend and I have had this discussion and he's been spending some spare time looking for a way to file a lawsuit against the feds for the ongoing invasion.

He says that the funny thing is that with most cases you're looking for evidence of incompetence or liability while in this situation there's so much viable stuff to sue for that it's hard for him to get his arms around it all.

According to him you can't sue the federal government directly so you'd have to sue one of the agencies and you need to show that you were directly affected or damaged by the agency not doing it's job.

Hence it'd have to be filed by someone who had contracted TB from an illegal who came here with the disease and that that could be verified.

My guess is that you'd have to go after ICE and you'd have to demonstrate that by not catching and deporting the infected illegal that you were harmed by contracting the disease.

He says it's only a matter of time before someone files one of these cases and it sticks.

"For the pro-illegal immigration type, it is a BAD thing that non-college educated Americans should earn above Third World wages. "

It's up to you to demonstrate to employers that you are worth more than third world wages.

You don't see college dropouts Rush Limbaugh or Karl Rove sitting around whining because no one will pay them more than third world wages.

How you know what is anathema me is amazing. I ma and have always been a Blue Collar Worker, and have done well by working my tail off and going above and beyond what was expected by me, which caused me great grief the brief time I was in a union.

I know that you cheap labor types would like to see America turned into something like Brazil where the rich live behind walls and gates and the lower orders fish for scraps in the garbage dumps, but that is not what patriotic Americans want.

Or are you a Chinese patriot like CBG ?

"It's not jobs Americans don't want to do. These are wages and working conditions Americans don't want to accept,"

Bull! These are jobs for companies that don't want to pay decent wages to their employees.

Dear presidio9,

"More likely scenario is that a lot of small business would fail. There are many businesses that can not support higher wages. Fast food springs immediately to mind."

Perhaps some might fail in the short term.

Regarding the case of fast food restaurants, let's look at what would happen if there were no illegal immigrants willing to work at very low wages, and there were insufficient legal workers to work at, say, minimum wage.

What would happen is the need to increase overall compensation would put pressure on profits and prices. In areas where the economy is reasonably good, most owners could recoup part of the increased costs by raising prices. Where I live, in the Washington area, this happened years ago. Most fast food places pay above minimum wage.

Of course, if economic conditions don't permit passing increased labor costs along, then it's likely that you'll find more workers at the lower wages.

But where a structural gap occurs in the existing labor force (prices that the business can charge won't cover the increased labor costs required to attract enough workers), the long-term answer isn't to import workers illegally. The long-term answer is that the folks who run these businesses have to find new ways of doing the work where they can find enough workers to do the job, while keeping their prices low enough that folks will still purchase their products and services.

If the problem is that not enough folks will work at the fast food joint for minimum wage, and the owner can't raise prices to enough to cover increased labor costs, then the owner must find new ways of delivering the same products and services with fewer workers. Might mean a greater investment in automation, or having to re-invent the work processes.

It might mean that the cost of fast food will rise a bit, reducing the overall amount of fast food that gets sold, driving some providers of fast food out of the market, and folks will just have a couple fewer McDonald's and Burger Kings to go to. Because there will be fewer fast food places, there will be fewer positions to fill, somewhat ameliorating the increased wages to be paid to attract a sufficient number of workers.

In terms of places like this meat packing plant, it will mean that the price of pork chops will go up a nickel a pound to cover wages and benefits that will attract enough legal workers to take the jobs.

In terms of services like housecleaning and nannies, it may mean that fewer of the comfortably affluent will be able to afford this luxury, or that they may have to eat out at the fancy French restaurant one time less per month. Oh well.

Every business wants to try to be price competitive, and will look for ways to be more price competitive. When times are rough, businesses can squeeze a little harder on the costs of labor. When times are good, businesses have to scramble to balance attracting decent workers and maintaining profitability. Without innovation, many businesses will fall behind as the innovators find ways of doing more (increasing productivity) with the same workers.

Permitting almost unlimited illegal immigration to provide an easy way to suppress wages and benefits is not a legitimate way for businesses to keep their labor costs down.

There is one more thing I have to say about this concerning wages. I ahve heard on may occasions people state that hiring illegals for very low wages is the only way a company can make money and be profitable. I was not aware the this was a valid reason to break federal and state laws. There are labor and immigration laws in this country and these people in this story are breaking them.

OK. How would you protect yourself for TB?
Is this really something you spend time during the day pondering?

CDC seems to think it is worthy of "spending time" researching, following and reporting. Suggest you do a thorough investigation of this TB tracking, CBG. Include in your research incarciration, schools, healthcare facilities (and what healthcare providers are legally required to do to protect themselves and their clients), etc.
Here is a start:

CDC
In addition, Hispanics or Latinos have disproportionately high prevalence of the following conditions and risk factors:
Asthma
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
HIV/AIDS
Obesity
Suicide
Teenage pregnancy
Tuberculosis (TB)

She is dizzy, almost wobbly. Her head aches, her coughing won't stop, and because she doesn't have enough money she has not filled her four prescriptions nor seen a doctor recently.

My first thought was BS! Second was that if she had prescriptions, maybe she had health insurance and it wouldn't be too much to fill those scrips.

Now I wonder why this woman is killing herself to send the money back, instead of taking care of herself.

Excuse me while I don tinfoil....is there a possibility that these modern illegals could have family members that, shall we say, need to be ransomed? Is there coercion involved regarding the illegals and the reason they're coming here? Look, America is a goldmine, but I'm reading too many stories where people live like absolute dogs in order to send money back to their "families". Fox and the Mexican government are a bunch of collective POS's, and they make the Mafia look like the Salvation Army.

Let us not forget that there is 15 billion involved per year, benefiting a corrupt regime.

Naaaaah, that's me just being paranoid...

No. Instead of sitting home calling people names shouldn't you be out looking for a job?

How can you claim to be patriotic, when you and your labor buddies seek only to destroy the American economy?
