My close friends new wife, who is a feminist and leftist, has urged me not to shop WalMart because it discriminates against women...I find that hard to believe, but thought this anti WalMart thread might be a place to mention it.
I am a free market person generally, so am not inclined to be a WalMart basher, but still don't find the interior of the stores very attractive.
When I was flat-@ssed broke, I only shopped at Big Lots. I got a promotion, and moved up to Wal-Mart because it was closer and more convenient, and had better selection. Then I got another promotion and started shopping at Target because it's closer still, and has better quality.
You're right. WalMart is just a store.
Unfair to who ..?? the unions - the unions who only support democrats - the unions who cyphon off dues and donate it to democrats ..??
Interesting article. Midway through reading, more specifically around the Huffy story, I flashed to a scene from Full Metal Jacket. The recruits are in the squad bay and Pvt Pile has gotten into deep doodoo. The DI tells him to choke himself to which Pvt. Pile grabs the DI's hand. The DI pulls it back and says don't grab my hand not get on your knees and choke yourself. And so the recruit did.
Would you rather us be the lender feeding other countries' investments?
I believe in your tagline, do you?
Unless of course someone has an apparent agenda, along with a hate of Wal-mart. Excellent sleuthing.
FYI, Joe's confused about the priority of labor over capital. Joe thinks the dollar is first, last, and all-between.
Real Conservatives understand that man is at the center of economics.
His confusion is epic, as was AynRand's.
First off, that's a nice side-step.
Of that 137B, how much was produced ON SHORE?
"American suppliers" is irrelevant--it's "American-produced" that is important.
Secondly, how much was "American-supplied AND -produced" in 1975?
I have a feeling that the vast majority of posters never got past the first paragraph and don't even know what the point was.
Wal-Mart not wanting unions has nothing to do with moral or ethical values. It is a decision born completely of profit. If they any moral or ethics they wouldn't do the things they do, such as demand unpaid overtime or cut employees off at to the hourly point where Wal-Mart would be required to provide health benefits.
Exactly. Those companies entered into agreements with Walmart and as a matter of fact some of those companies had special Wal-Mart sales teams. If they made a poor deal with Wal-Mart, well thats their fault not Wal-Marts. Why did Vlasic agree to $2.97 for a gallon of picks anyway? With all the over paid MBAs running around
you would think that one one them would have foreseen
the problems with that. Anyone that runs their own business
could see what was coming when you sell at cost.
Simply put, Wal-Mart tells you what it wants to pay for its goods and services. If you don't agree, they cut you off 100%.
If you can afford to lose 100% of your business with them, fine. If not, you progressively shrink your margins until you outsource everything or go out of business.
But make no mistake; being able to bully your own cost is not business savvy. There are other names for such activity.
Smirking by the portfolio crowd is expected. But when the timecard, consumption class (working at Wal-Mart), can't fuel enough sales (like the old coalmine company store), then the investment class too, will realize "what they hath wrought."
"The commies will never get it." Actually the commies in China are definitely getting it--our exported dollars for Chicom junk thanks to W-M et al who have sent the Chicoms billions creating a huge, positive (for them) trade balance. What do they do with the money? Build their already huge military might and threaten us with atomic destruction. Do you get it yet? Nahhhh! I have sent this same message for months, but I'm an unheard voice in the wilderness, so this is the last time I'll try it.
Whatever. I'm sorry but I had mistaken you for someone who might have a counter-argument.
True! True! True!
"They are successful."
Every anticaptialist hates $ucce$$!
"profit"
You're against a business making a PROFIT ..??
Obviously .. you do not own your own business. If you did you would view PROFIT very differently. Just because YOU don't happen to approve of their business practices, that doesn't mean those practices are immoral or unethical.
Sooooo .. when you get your own business are you going to GIVE UP ALL YOUR PROFITS just to please some whining democrats ..?? Get real!
"You're against a business making a PROFIT ..??
Obviously .. you do not own your own business."
Do you always jump to wild-assed conclusions? My point was that Wal-Mart isn't doing a good thing for the benefit of the employees, as some have suggested they do.
