Family finally gets to bury Viet casualty

FAYETTEVILLE - Kenneth Hanna’s family spent decades waiting to welcome him home and say goodbye.

The Army sergeant major, then 34, vanished in Vietnam in 1968 and was listed as missing in action. Ten years later, that status was changed to killed in action.

But it was only in November 2003 that officials recovered the remains of Mr. Hanna and another soldier, Charles Lindewald. Sgt. Maj. Hanna’s remains were positively identified last fall through dental records and anthropological analysis.

His remains were flown to North Carolina on Jan. 7, and he was laid to rest Saturday after a funeral at a church filled with family, friends, soldiers and veterans.

"It meant closure for the family," his wife, Mary Hanna, said afterward.

Sgt. Maj. Hanna was one of five Green Berets listed as missing in action on Feb. 7, 1968, after North Vietnamese tanks overran a Special Forces camp during the Battle of Lang Vei. He was weapons sergeant with the 5th Special Forces Group.

Don't guess you're able to work in that, are you?

Called the propane company out this morning to top the tank off. Am worried we'll get some snow and ice in here soon and want to be prepared to use the gas logs if the power goes out.

Travel safely, Mama_Bear. We will expect plenty good reports and pictures.

Thank you. Yes, I am planning on taking lots of photos...(I'm afraid the problem will be identifying who is in the photos after I get home.)

I will be posting a FR Ball picture thread on Wednesday the 26th. I am hoping to get JustAmy to work with me on this and do the "report" part.

HUGS! :-)

I actually have a good amount of inside work to do.
I have to install some carpet today.

Next is knock down a garage, build a bigger and better garage in the back of the property, then build a big 2 story addition where I took down the first garage.

I want Spring!!!!!!!!!!

Stay warm and Prayers you don't lose power.

Diva, thanks for the additions to the Prayer List. I will make a note in FR mail to those who also keep their lists to include:

Bykrbayb...........son
Hope and Glory.............son
Colorado Slim........ nephew

Rus, I emailed you the text for *my* updated list prior to these three. If you will toss the one you used today (because there have been some revisions since that one), and use the one I sent in regular email and add these 3 to the columns. Thanks to all of you!
