To watch the violent drunks tear down your front gates?

If you can't get it, I'm not going to waste bandwidth trying to explain.

I agree, this is a different issue entirely, this really isn't about the 2nd amendment. It's about drinking.

Allow gun ownership. Homeowners kill maybe a dozen violent and assaulting drunks the first week-end. The drunks go under the sod, permanently cured of their bad behavior. The word is spread. The sun comes up Monday on a freshly civilized society. People feel safe again.

You're wrong. These security measures are not required because of drinking. They are required because of violence.
Drinking is legal in many countries and legalized drinking doesn't require private homes in those countries to become prisons for the occupants.
Outlawing the booze didn't work during Prohibition. There's no solution there.
An armed society is a polite society.

I suspect those who don't understand the calming effect a firearm has on diffusing a violent confrontation have never been on the wrong end of a gun or else have relied on others to protect them.

No drinking hours? I wonder how the youth will restrain themselves. A full reading of the article suggests that they won't.

Besides, why on Earth do we have a police department if they can't act to curb this sort of behavior? My relatives back in England don't pay taxes for the police department to muck about. One huge problem that there is no general agreement in Biitain on where the line separating bad behavior from good behavior lies.
Post-modernism and political correctness aided and abetted by a thoroughly debauched news media and degenerate royals have turned Britain into a lazar house.

I fail to see how the lout problem in major British cities will go away once they are allowed to have guns in their drunken stupors. Drunks can't aim a gun as well as sober people. When you shoot the drunks they will go away.
There was a time in England when the police were not allowed to carry guns. If a cop encountered an armed criminal, he was supposed to ask an armed citizen to help him. That was when England was a lot more civilized. Times have changed.

The British have evolved from once world leaders, to an embarrassing footnote in history.

"I bolt the front door and I don't go out again," she says, wearily. "I can't. It just isn't safe with all these violent drunks around. A few weeks ago, five of them tried to tear down my front gates. I wonder if incidents like this inspired the film "Sean of the Dead" where England is overrun with zombies and it takes a while before anyone notices.

I believe you to be sincere but what has happened in England is an affront to civilization. You cannot rely on a police department to protect people. There are simply not EVER going to be enough police when you turn the entire population into helpless victims for any scofflaw who takes a notion to prey upon his fellow citizen.
The absolute right of self-defense and THE MEANS to accomplish it are crucial to civilization.
England is well upon the way toward total lawlessness by taking away the rights of the law-abiding citizen to protect himself and his property. The evidence is everywhere apparent and even the police have declared their own inability to stop the crime wave.
Damn fool English. A blind man could have seen this coming.
I believe such nonsense to be societal suicide and any nation refusing the right of self defense to its citizens DESERVES to join the ash heap of history.
How supposedly free citizens have allowed their government to turn them into criminal victims without recourse is a total mystery.
This is convincing proof societies cannot remain free very long because enough dangerously foolish people can ultimately be swindled out of their own rights and assist their masters in forging new chains in which they again become enslaved.
