"The Rainbow Division was very active in WWI and Douglas MacArthur was an officer in it."

Interesting that the name is virtually unknown!? I would have gone AWOL to the NAVY before I ever served in a "Rainbow" group!

But I guess in this day of the P.C. army, it is an excellent choice for a name.

I just feel really sorry for the brave Americans who are assigned to it.

The reason why it was called the Rainbow division is because of the variety of places its soldiers hailed from.

It's sad that the homofascists have hijacked a Judeo-Christian symbol.

"M-14! Back to the future!"

- You know, the only thing I fear is that once some of these special rifles fall into the hands of terrorists, (and sooner or later they will) then they will become just as feared and lethal against our own troops.
In this day and age I don't see why a sniper issued with such a weapon couldn't have a small initialized receiver built into the barrel or breach area that would be personalized to a code unique to the sniper who was issued it. If the sniper lost the rifle or was killed, the code could be activated and a small thermal device within the rifle would melt the barrel or fuse the breach and make the weapon unusable to the enemy.
I know it's a bit Buck Rodgers but very feasible and might save a lot of lives.

I didn't know that.

Unfortunately the "gays" have hijacked the rainbow to symbolize their debauchery.

The rifle isn't nearly as "special" as these soldiers.

Good morning.

"Updated LRPs with free fire?"

Yep. There's nothing like a six man team of well trained Recondo types sneaking around in their rear rear area to shake up the bad guys.

F Company of the 51st (LRSD) was hunting in and around Mosul not long ago, just as F/51(LRP) did in War Zones D and C in 1967 and 1968.

LOL! Their Chicken A La King and Spaghetti and Meatballs MREs (Meals Ready to Eat) have soy product substitutes instead of protein from real animals.

Agree - a scant decade ago "Rainbow" made you think of "innocent girl scouts", the calm after a rain shower, the colors of a prism .....

NOW.... it brings up putrid thoughts.

Thank a liberal today for that ... don't forget to thank personally his lawyer/judge/politician friends either

For your information. From the 42ID site

"With the onset of America's participation in the Second World War, the 42nd Division was reactivated. At the July 1943 reactivation ceremony, the new division commander, Brigadier General Harry Collins echoed MacArthur's sentiments on the 42nd Division's unique status when he said, "The Rainbow represents the people of our country."

The 42nd landed in France in December 1944 and as part of the 7th Army, advanced through France and entered Germany in March of 1945. It was during the 42nd Division's rapid advance through Germany in April 1945 that they, along with the Guard's 45th Infantry Division, liberated the infamous Dachau concentration camp.

By the end of the war, the 42nd Division had established an enviable record. It was first in its corps to enter Germany, first to penetrate the Seigfried line and first into Munich. Rainbow soldiers had seized over 6,000 square miles of Nazi held territory during their march across Europe. The Division ended the war serving as occupation forces in Austria and was inactivated in June 1946."

I think you would have been proud to serve.

Mean motor scooters to be sure, although they treated me well.

I had a similiar thought a few days ago. A Marine Corps sniper team was compromised and killed outside of Fallujah last spring. About all that were recovered were the bodies...all the gear was gone. Later I read about Marine snipers that had been shot in the head while in good concealed positions...Caused me to wonder.

Anyway, how about something like an RFID tag. I think rigging the weapon to destroy itself would be weight prohibitive and may affect accuracy.

I was trained on one in '66. Best of the bunch. The M16 is only good for spraying lead. The M14 sprays body fluid at 800 meters. With a scope and tripod, you got yourself a real nice thingeeeeee...

Lots of questions.
I understand the weapon and its long range capability, but how do they operate?

Semiautomatic, gas operated, 20-round magazine fed, shoulder fired individual weapon.

Do they dig a hole on a mountainside?

Can't answer haven't been to sniper school.

They not come out for several days?

Can't answer haven't been to sniper school.

How do they identify a "high value target"?

Can't answer haven't been to sniper school.

Is there any tofu involved with this?

NO

What caliber does the M-14 shoot?

7.62 mm NATO very close to a .30 caliber that was used in the M1 Garrand of WWII. Cuts a mean hole.
