I dunno. That may be presumptuous of you. I say, let's hang her, and see how it goes. If it should become clear that hanging was too good for her, I'll be the first to admit I was wrong.Small problem there, exactly which method of hanging were you proposing? The quick trap-door drop method, or the older, more traditional slow hoist? Enquiring minds want to know...

Agreed...though I think that Mapes is worse than Blair and closer to Duranty.

All right maybe enable is too strong a word. Apologist then.

How many Hollywood films have been made about Stalin and his crimes? Robert Duvall played him in a made for TV movie (I think it was on HBO) but besides that I can't think of one.

Oh, I agree with you.
But as for the positive elements of this scandal, well, that may not be the case the next time.
This whole fiasco will probably result in more cunning ways to present falsehoods and forgeries.
What they, in their infinite wisdom call "nuanced," to us peasants.
As we know, they were pretty darn stupid about the whole thing.
They will learn lessons from that fiasco, but what they learn certainly won't be to be honest and truthful with the American people...
I think that someone at the federal level needs to push for some serious prison time.

Actually, that dubious distinction probably goes to either Pol Pot (another fellow toiler), or, more likely, the Hutus in Rwanda.

As bad as Blair and Mapes were they don't hold a candle to Duranty. It's outrageous that the New York Times still hangs on to his Pulitzer. Not coming clean about a crime, a lie of that magnitude, working to cover it up and perpetuate the deception long after the truth has come out, is certainly a sign of a soul-sickness that runs deep and wide. Such people can never, ever, be trusted to tell the truth about anything.

About Stalin and his crimes, two: The HBO movie with Duvall, and "The Inner Circle" with Tom Hulce. Lolita Davidovitch and Bob Hoskins.A very good film.
About Stalin: There were some truly despicable films from the "Uncle Joe" era, including "Mission to Moscow". Indirect praise of the entire system (happy, patriotic peasants) can be found in the movie "North Star", which had the title changed, and an anti-Soviet tack-on at the end during the 50s.

I think it's hard to cram all of Stalin's crimes into one movie.
To: mainepatsfan
I recall reading Stalin killed upwards of 100 million - is this accurate?
Add Mao's 100 million, only a village idiot or evil doer would defend communisim/liberalism.

And Mr judge of unimpeachableness needs to be impeached...book him Dan'O! The big rat is walking away, he needs to be held accountable to the public trust since SeeBS does not have the balls or will.
To: newfreep
I don't know if there is an exact count. I think there's only estimates.
To: newfreep
I've seen figures for Stalin in trhe 50-60 million range. Mao's usually credited with 100 million.
