My wife's father made a living shearing sheep. They never spent anything that they didn't have. They never threw away a tin plate if they thought they could use it later. He built the home they lived in for fifty years himself from salvaged materials.

I believe that one of the reasons that it appears that some people "can't make it" is that we have redefined "making it" in order to justify government interference.
