Genes play a factor & it is true that breast cancer is being diagnosed earlier. What data do you have that it is MOSTLY due to genetics?

Besides the fact that I was diagnosed with it and the fact that MOST of the women that I have met (which was over a hundred every time I went for treatment) have a family history of it. What data do you have that proves otherwise?

I'm so sorry. Hope you are well.

I agree with you that breast cancer on the maternal side of the family is a major risk factor. If a mother has breast cancer, the risk doubles in her daughters, as a general rule. (ie. Baseline risk is about 1 in 8 or 10 women will develop breast Ca -- let's call it 10% risk. So the daughter would have a 20% risk.)

If a sister has bilateral breast cancer, then the patient has a 50% risk of breast cancer.

Other factors include gender (a given), age, early menarche, late menopause, estrogen use, alcohol consumption, high fat diet, obesity, radiation, etc.

My point about the antiperspirants is the chronic, daily application of chemicals to the skin adjacent to the breast -- an area full of lymphatic vessels. Some women shave in the morning, immediately before applying those antiperspirants while other women only shave twice a week and at night so the skin has time to recover before the chemicals are applied. I wonder if just a part of familial cancer could be that women & their daughters share the same habits and use of hygiene products. I don't know but I think it is worth investigating.

Thank you. I am doing fine.

My grandmother had breast cancer, not my mother, sister, aunts, etc. Mine was in the exact same place her's was. Mine is hormone receptive also, so for five years I'll be on anti-hormone medication (which I hate). That has been the worse part of it all including surgery, chemo and reconstruction. I guess I just hate medication especially when it makes every bone in your body ache in the beginning.
