• If Osama bin Laden does, in fact, head a vast international terrorist organization with trained operatives in more than 40 countries, as claimed by Bush, why, despite torture of prisoners, has this administration failed to produce hard evidence of it?

We are kiling the bastards not "proving" anything to media types.

• How can it be that in Britain since 9/11, 664 people have been detained on suspicion of terrorism but only 17 have been found guilty, most of them with no connection to Islamist groups and none who were proven members of Al Qaeda?

We are kiling the bastards not building a criminal case against them. Furthermore, if a crime is stopped before it is carried out then it sure is hard to prosecute someone. Getting a conspiracy conviction is much more difficult.

• Why have we heard so much frightening talk about "dirty bombs" when experts say it is panic rather than radioactivity that would kill people?

Because any shmuck that wants to break into a lab or a hospital can make a dirty bomb. Would this not produce radioactivity and panic?

• Why did Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld claim on "Meet the Press" in 2001 that Al Qaeda controlled massive high-tech cave complexes in Afghanistan, when British and U.S. military forces later found no such thing?

I assume the cave reports came from the CIA. Enough said.

This article has really gotten me p!$$3D off. In putting together my web page on terrorism I have been awed by the interconnectivity of these groups. Guy A is a brother to guy B who was once arrested with guy C who attends the same mosque as guy D. When guy A and guy D commit similar terror attacks 3,000 miles apart I am not supposed to see a connection?

Yet a brilliant new BBC film produced by one of Britain's leading documentary filmmakers systematically challenges this and many other accepted articles of faith in the so-called war on terror.

In a brilliant response on the Free Republic Forum, poster 12B, a man of only modest intelligence, notes immediately that Al-Q as around during the Clinton Administration and is therefore unlikely to be an invention of George Bush.

Interesting that during the 90's, the mainstream press wrote dozens of articles about Al Qaeda and Clinton talked about the danger they posed.

Also, during the 90's the press wrote literally dozens and dozens of articles about the world's alarm at the growing relationship between Al Qaeda and Iraq. Of course now they pretend there is no relationship and act as though we can't look this stuff up.

"If Osama bin Laden does, in fact, head a vast international terrorist organization with trained operatives in more than 40 countries, as claimed by Bush, why, despite torture of prisoners, has this administration failed to produce hard evidence of it? "

Because the Socialists, known in the US as the Democrat party consider panties on their pointy little heads as torture, therefore asking them any question other than, "what would you like for dinner" violates their civil rights.

Sheesh

The CIA has been so poor in its information gathering in the las 20 years that anything coming from them is as suspect as a Weekly World News article.

I know it was before the time frame this joker is referring to but planes flying into the WTC and the Pentagon is all the "hard evidence"I need.

I guess this is the latest. As Al-Qaeda gets wiped out, the liberati will start saying they never existed. Anything to take credit away from the US. I guess they miss the good old days of Clinton when they were running amok like cockroaches in Michael Moores apt.

The only thing I hate more than the LATimes is the NYTimes.

The article reminds me of M. Moore repeating, "there is no terrorist threat."

Why would anyone read past the title? Yup, that's what knocked down the towers and the African Embassies, a Boogeyman. That's what crashed into the Pentagon and the USS Cole. I really cannot remember when I read a Scheer article and said, "He hit that one out of the park." More like he's waaaaaaaaaaaaaay out left field.

Because the raison d'etre of FR is to dispell this nonsense.

I didn't mean it as a criticism in general. It was more of a personal statement. Scheer is just so wrong so much of the time that he's just a waste of time. You know what I mean. :)

"Why have we heard so much frightening talk about "dirty bombs" when experts say it is panic rather than radioactivity that would kill people?"

This is too silly. Yes, they won't die of radioactivity, but they'll be just as dead. If the terrorists succeed with getting their hands on a dirty bomb, we'll lose plenty of people. Yet the fact that it won't be the radioactivity that kills them some how causes a Lefty to pooh pooh the terror that'd be caused by the detonating of a dirty bomb even as he admits people would be killed in the stampede to get away! This is why people don't take the Left seriously on issues of national security and freedom.
