Our power is back on long enough for me to get on and tell you that we're in the middle of a nasty ice storm.

Power is off in most of the area, icing is severe, branches coming down all over, roads coated.

We might have a COLD night here if our power goes out again.

Give me SNOW any day! This ICE is for the penguins!

Do me a favor and don't send it here. We've had de-icers out and we don't even have any ice YET. I don't want a repeat of a couple of years ago when we had no electricity or heat for almost three days. (We did have a small woodburner in the family room, but the rest of the house was frigid. We couldn't even heat up a cup of coffee. And the expense for the downed trees in my yard was...well, expensive.)

It's not just him, it's liberal mentality. I live in Wisconsin. Today, there was a dusting of snow, we're expected to get a couple more inches. You'd think we lived in Florida for pete's sake. A city near here sent the kids home from school at noon because they thought we'd get more. Come on, it's WISCONSIN, It's January, it's winter. I can remember back in the old days walking barefoot up hill both ways with no shoes in 5 feet of snow. Now, it's let's blast the roads with a gazillion pounds of salt because we 'might' get snow. We used to go to school in all kinds of weather. 4 inches in these parts was just an inconvenience. Now, it's the end of the world, I suspect, prophesied by bible codes.

When I was in Norway I told them about the Blizzard of 93 (IIRC) and how two feet of snow shut us down for two and a half weeks.


They thought it was funny as heck. :P

It hasn't rained so much in one day in the Pittsburgh PA area since the big floods of this past September. I was out at 9 PM and waves of water were cascading down the streets. If it gets any heavier, the sewer drains will start to overflow at intersections.

People's view of weather history is entirely based on their own perspective. A snow storm to a five year old comes up to his shoulder. And it's paradice. When that same five year old turns 20, he says he remembers bigger snow storms as a kid and loves the hot summers for his days at the beach. When that same 20 something turns 40, he remembers it being warmer when he was a kid and he can't remember driving in all this miserable rain and snow. It's too cold to play sandlot football with the guys anymore and it's too hot to drive his car in traffic to take his kids to the beach. When that 40 something turns 60, he's never been so hot, so cold, so achy, and so miserable in all his life. He can't drive at night in the rain. A flurry or two will keep him from going to the store. And he hires the teenager next door to cut his grass in the extremely hot summers.

When that 60 something turns 90, he can't remember a God-blessed thing in his life.
