Good math! People seem to think all millions of dollars of aid arrives on the wings of fairies or on backs of butterflies...it takes the US military to do the job.
I give the guy credit for adding $330 billion to what we have given. Im sure the criticism isnt the only reason but thats what it looks like when someone calls you stingy and then you give 10 times more than you said you would. He won that exchange not us.
Understatement of the day.
News conference delayed. People are slowly filing into the conference room. No idea when it starts.
But he lays good eggs.
I don't call it winning when he has to back pedal in public.
If I donate $1000 to a persons chairity and he calls me cheap so I then donate $10,000 and then he says "Captain isnt being cheap anymore" who has won? I cant believe people are actually seeing this as a victory for us. If the guys job is to get more donor money then he cares a lot more about that then a little public back pedaling.
Minor tweak to your list. Coming in at #2 is "the U.S. Military.", unless memory fails me, which is very possible in the last 2 weeks. It seems I recall that the Pentagon diverted the ships almost immediately after the disaster.
perhaps you prefer to instantaneously throw gobs of money to a cause that has not yet been defined, duplicate the efforts of others(this after the Oil for Food scandal) -- i prefer to assess, define, prescribe then act. as we can all see, our military pretty much got their first with helicopters to be effective - they are our most valuable asset, not money, and where do you think all the food is coming from? America's farmers. because of lack of infrastructure, so much is lined up, waiting.
Sniff, sniff - I've been tweaked - Bwaaaaaaaaaa! (grin)
The local papers' headlines since December 26th touted ever-changing fatalities every day.
No, because the guy was plain stupid, and anyone who thinks that the US was only going to give 35million bucks is just dumb, and beyond reason anyways, who cares if they think we upped the ante because we were criticized. Its like worrying that some Democrats might think the President was involved in 911....
:) I heard it here of course.
USS Ronald Reagan Displacement 102,000 tons or 3.332e+009 troy oz
@ $438.10/oz = $584,547,980,380,000
What a return on investment based on Mr. Egeland's valuation.
Staring in awe! Thanks!
What I'd give for .001% of that in cash!
:-)
Egeland eating crow, but can't bring himself to tell the truth. That the UN is worse than useless and that they're desperately hanging onto this relief effort in an ignominious attempt to A. take total credit, and B. to justify their continued existence. He says the UN desperately needs helicopters, that they're 'worth their weight in gold', and fails to mention that the US is already using them to deploy food and aid in the area. If the UN has any thoughts of redeeming itself, it should stop grandstanding -- but that's ingrained with bureaucrats, so don't look for anything to change anytime soon.
And to think we have more than one 8^)
