Bush has fallen flat on his face on this very big issue. I don't get it. Tom is about the only politician I hear saying: "It's a disaster getting worse by the minute."...This is the biggest issue right behind terrorism facing Americans and NOTHING is being done. God help us...we are going to need it.

Bush has fallen flat on his face on this very big issue

Sort of.

He was successful in keeping driver's licenses for his precious illegal aliens.

He was successful in keeping his stealth amnesty for illegals via "matricula cards" rolling along.

And last month he managed to stammer and stutter his plan for a Mexico merger back into the news.

"It costs taxpayers $31,000 per year to house a prisoner, so the bill comes to about $750 million for illegal-immigrant felons and $900 million for all foreign nationals. "

You have expressed interest in this subject in the past, please let me know if you want off this illegal immigration ping list. Thanks!

"This administration has got to step up to the plate"...

And what, correct the mistakes of the Clinton Admin and Dems made by making it easier for them to come here...in hopes of getting more Dem votes?

I've been looking at the threads about the aid and donations to the Tsunami victims. Even Arab countries are contributing, but the one glaring omission is Mexico. Mexico has more billionaires and millionaires than Saudi Arabia.

snip--

Mexico has more "Forbes" billionaires, 11, than all but eight other nations. It has more billionaires than Saudi Arabia, Switzerland or Taiwan. It also has more than 85,000 millionaires.

Aired 12/16/04 On CNN

DOBBS: Tonight, an estimated 15 million illegal aliens live in this country, at least half of them from Mexico. Many are here because they chose to flee crushing poverty in Mexico.

But, in point of fact, Mexico is one of the richest countries in Latin America, amongst -- the millionaires, billionaires and its wealth concentrated in the hands of very few.

Casey Wian reports from Los Angeles.

CASEY WIAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: They sneak across the border seeking jobs they can't find in Mexico. The question isn't why they come, it's why can't Mexico's economy support its own people.

Nearly half of Mexico's population lives in poverty. Ten percent are indigent, existing on a dollar a day. Yet the nation has vast wealth. Mexico has more "Forbes" billionaires, 11, than all but eight other nations. It has more billionaires than Saudi Arabia, Switzerland or Taiwan. It also has more than 85,000 millionaires.

GEORGE W. GRAYSON, COLLEGE OF WILLIAM & MARY: There is a small economic elite who live like maharajas, and there's a political elite that protects them. Our border provides an escape valve which really lets the Mexican political and economic elite off the hook in terms of providing opportunities for their own people.

WIAN (on camera): About 10 percent of Mexico's 105 million people live here in the United States. They're called national heroes by President Vicente Fox because this year they'll send home about $16 billion, more than any Mexican industry except oil.

(voice-over): The country sits on oil reserves worth about $400 billion, but Mexico's state-owned oil company, Pemex, doesn't have the investment funds to tap those reserves, and Mexico's Congress refuses to allow foreign investment in Pemex.

Mexico's outdated tax system is plagued by widespread tax evasion. It collects taxes at less than half the rate of the United States. As a result, Mexico's public-school and health-care systems suffer. CHRIS WOODRUFF, CENTER FOR U.S.-MEXICO STUDIES: We now realize -- and particularly in a world where capitalists are mobile -- that redistribution isn't going to work, and what people focus on now instead is allowing the poor to build assets. Mexico has undertaken some programs which will allow the poor to do that. But that's not a process that changes overnight.

WIAN: Meanwhile, the gap between rich and poor is growing. So Mexico continues to export one of its most valuable assets, people.
-----snip

What is it with Mexico? To quote the pres, "the low expectations of soft bigotry". It's like he and too many others expect nothing from Mexico, even taking care of their own. Some localities have started billing Mexican consulates for the cost of illegals care and incarceration...of course they get nothing from them.

You are correct in saying that the Clinton administration got the ball a rolling on this and for just that reason but what you forget is the democrats have no shame.

We are in this battle alone and won't get any help from the democrats.

In some countries only the incarceration of the person is allowed. Food and clean clothing are the responsibility of the family.

You're right. No wonder Vincente Fox wants to send all his criminal types here. If we could send Mexico all of ours, it might be a good deal!

Strictly speaking the Feds are responsible for immigration policy but I hope California doesn't get a dime. The majority of its bigshots support the beliefs and policies that brought these criminals here in the first place, they knew California would be the first stop, they didn't care about the effects on society, and now they should pay for their malfeasance. Besides, we deserve at least a little amusement watching things implode as we surf the drain circle.

When Hillary Clinton delayed and delayed with unveiling her brainiac health-care
plan, the rumors were that she just couldn't include illegal aliens in the plan
without bankrupting the system (and probably the nation).

Schwarzenegger has worked with other border states to get more federal money and has lobbied Congress aggressively.

"Federal money" = American taxpayer money. Why hasn't Arnold "lobbied" Congress to stop illegal immigration? Typical politician - the only way he can think is to throw more of our money at the problem to put a band-aid on it, while it would be cheaper to enforce our laws.

"The White House has not been as supportive (of reimbursement) as I would like. This is a struggle with them as well."

The White House doesn't have any problem sending our money to foreign nations for every reason possible, but is broke when it comes to illegal immigration and enforcing the law of the borders in a time of war.

If people don't realize that this stinks, they're not listening.
