That might be the case now, but back when I was a kid they were In loco parentis, and allowed to use corporal punishment. Yeah, in the good old days when I was in High School, it would be the teacher taking the kid out into the hall and beating the crap out of him. Even though we were in the public Government school system, we at least managed to learn something there.
