The study, titled "What Do Americans Do on the Internet?"

Why didn't they contact me? The answer is "avoid liberals."

Less TV. It's a sign of the decline of civilization.

This sounds like a vain attempt of the MSM and the left to discredit the "net". As with all things that they can't succede in harnessing which work against them, they attempt to destroy.

I don't give them high odds at succeding. What do they know about "socialization" anyway?!

Oh goodie, I finally get to rant about this: Cable has really gone down the toilet.

Discovery Channel is now the Monster Garage Channel.

The Learning Channel is now the Home Makeover Channel.

The Travel Channel is now the World Poker Tour Channel.

Of course I don't watch this crap.

When you consider the garbage that's on TV these days, this comes as no surprise.

They certainly have a knack for calling people that don't agree with them retarded or stupid. That was evident in this past election.

The writer of this article seems to have forgotten what Alvin Toffler wrote 25 years ago in The Third Wave: as communications technologies improve, people will seek out alternative means of getting entertainment and information. The public Internet has become perhaps the biggest of these alternatives, especially with the rapid ascension of broadband Internet usage in the last few years.

The 'group of political scientists' needs to broaden their definition of 'socialization' because hanging out at places like FR (note that I think of FR as a 'place') is a form of socializing IMO.

Yes. I've trolled DU in the recent past, and I'm convinced that they simply don't understand the "culture of the net". They DO however understand that it works against them in a big way for conservatives. Therefore, in their minds, it's a bad thing.

What amazes me about that article is that the global WAN is entirely about facilitating communications. To communicate amongst ourselves is a social function in itself. But from the looks of it, they don't see it this way. They just don't GET IT.

"People don't understand that time is hydraulic," he said, meaning that time spent on the Internet is time taken away from other activities.

People do understand just how stupid rich liberals think they are.

"You can't get a hug or a kiss or a smile over the Internet."

Not entirely false -- it's better in the flesh -- but not entirely true.

Does posting on FR count as socializing?

For that matter, does reading in the bathroom count as multitasking?

And what the heck is "cheese food" anyway?!?

The more time spent on the Internet, the less time to be brainwashed by Peter Jennings, Dan Rather, Ted Koppel, Chris Matthews, CNN, MSNBC, etc.

How is it that there are at least four shows on cable devoted to body shops? Body shops were where the losers used to go after failing to graduate high school. Now they have their own following on TV. And how many shows are there with interior decorators hot-gluing stuff to people's walls? Is this remotely interesting to some people? And poker tournaments, you already nailed that.
