I and my wife flew US Airways last week for Christmas. We were fortunatte no delays or lost luggage. But as i sat in the back of a plane in Philly for about thirty minutes waiting to pull out of the gate I saw a pile of about 50 bug of various sizes sitting on the concrete in a steady rain and no one of the ground crew cared.

PS. TSA = Thousands Standing Around

"Seems odd to go to LA from MPLS via Chicago....but what the heck."

American Airlines doesn't have a nonstop to LAX from MPLS. I was using the last of my frequent flyer miles for the trip, so we went on AA and had to go through Chicago.

Now that we live in Saint Paul, we'll switch to Northwest, which does offer the nonstop flights to LAX. I don't like Northwest, but they make the trip.

I do not fly. So I drove from Dallas to Fort Smith this year. Left Dallas it started sleeting. 30 miles this side of the Oklahoma border it started snowing. It snowed all the way. 288.7 miles at 30 to 40 miles per hour.

I counted 37 cars.trucks.SUV's and 18 wheelers in the ditch.
And when I arrived there was 2 inches of ice buildup on the front of my car. Loved every minute of it. :o)

"Too upsetting to talk about."

Try, please. It could be educational for us all to find out what happened, so we can avoid the same situations.

Did you have any troubles at the TSA checkpoints? Get patted down or anything? Was your checked luggage opened?

Doesn't sound like much fun to me, but I wouldn't fly 288 miles.

Flew from the Middle East where I work on Dec. 20. Security was the plain ol' regular thing...pretty much like the pre-2001 "olden days."

Flew from Houston to Washington, DC to visit family on the 23rd. Had to remove shoes, all outerwear, belt, etc. Actually felt safer about that. :-)

I had a wonderful, enormously non-stressful travel experience over Christmas ... I wasn't hassled by the TSA, I wasn't wanded, strip searched, de-shod ... I got to depart precisely on schedule ... my gear didn't get lost ... I got to listen to some old favourites and some new CDs in acoustic near-perfection ... it was very relaxing.

...

...

I drove.

"I drove."

That's one way to avoid it. I flew, and didn't have any hassles, either. Took a lot less time, too. I don't drive anywhere over 600 miles from my home. If I can't drive it in 10 hours, I fly.

I don't wear a belt when I fly, and wear deerskin moccasins on my feet. The parka's pockets had all my junk in them, so I just popped the parka on the belt. Pretty easy, and I think scanning jackets is appropriate, especially this time of year, when lots of people are wearing bulky parkas.

I don't wear a belt when I fly,

I've lost two sizes working in the Mideast. I have to wear a belt just to hold my jeans up. ;-)

Ahh....OK. I'll bet a lot of folks working over there have lost weight. Are you going back?

Yep. Mid-January. Just in time for election madness.

Never a dull moment!

Happy 2005 to ya.

Did anyone have a bad experience with TSA over the Christmas period?

No.

I’m of the opinion that most of the horror stories you hear are outright fabrications or are, at a minimum, greatly exaggerated.

I sailed right through with no problems. TSA at the Orange County end and one TSA with two Bay County sheriff’s deputies manning security at the other end.

You saw it on the news......that's the way it was.

Delays, lies from the airlines, etc.

I'm sorry to hear it. Which airline, so I can avoid it?
