I should have Googled:
The Kennedy era ended in 1993 when the house went on the market for $7 million. It was finally sold in 1995 to John and Marianne Castle for a reported 4.9 million.
By the way, Ted spells her name "Ethyl."
I did extensive research on Chappaquiddick 20 years ago for a high school paper. Kennedy has always claimed he made a "wrong turn;" however, there was a fork in the road that lead to the abandoned bridge, this was off the main road in Chappaquiddick, the bridge had always been abandoned and Kennedy had travelled this main road his entire life. Even drunk, somebody is very unlikely to make a wrong turn onto a road he had no reason to ever go down (it only lead to the bridge). Locals at the time said that "it wasn't summer until Teddy was seen driving drunk on a side walk." Kennedy's actions after the crash are consistent only with those of a person who wanted his passenger to die. The Kennedy family prevented an autopsy which probably would have shown she was pregnant. The irony is that Kennedy's plan to save his presidential aspirations is probably the one thing that completely destroyed it.
I think that, henceforth, every story about Ted Kennedy should be accompanied by the neck brace photo, just to remind people of this event.
I don't think so. Rush's is up at the northern end of the island. The Kennedy compound was further south at 1095 Ocean Blvd, about 4 blocks away. I checked it out vis a vis a title company website. It is frightening, but one can look up anybody by name and find out what they own, where it is, and what they paid for it usually.
Great looking place. For the right price it would be be a nice retreat/gathering place for conservative groups.
Good place to lay out strategy for the next 4 consecutive Republican administrations.
But if she had never had kids, there are at least two women who would have lived, and at least on less rape would have occurred. I dispise the kennedys. All of them.
" Ahem. Comparing the noble turkey vulture to the likes of the kennedy hog-wallowers is unfair. The kennedys are more aptly compared to what buzzards eat."
I stand corrected.
Please convey my abject apologies to the noble bird for any slight they suffered, when I compared them to Ted Kennedy :-).
I knew there was another level of low that was perfect for that "family." Thanks!
the kennedy's want to be able to vote TWICE also!
It was a strange rumor/delusion,that popped up on FR for a while, which I thought that I had quelled long ago.I guess its ghost is still hanging around, though. LOL
God forbid that the alcoholic, womanizing, manslaughtering Kennedys don't enjoy their Palm Beach excursion.
Are you sure this isn't a fixer-upper? A friend of mine used to oversee the very posh rentals at Sun Valley, and the Robert Kennedy clan vacationed there every winter. She said the kids were allowed to do ANYTHING, and they were so out of control they were like little wild animals. She said every year when they left, the place was totally destroyed, and the management would have to go in and strip everything down to the walls (and sometime to the studs) and replace everything. That was part of the agreement, and Ethel didn't blink at paying for damages. Apparently at the end of acouple weeks the place was uninhabitable. They had tons of money, but ghetto values.
You guys nailed it. Trailer trash with mega-bucks, but trailer trash to the core. (See my post above)
God's Almighty hand must have been there on this one.
I have an aunt and uncle who are both ridiculously overpaid lobbyists who live a few blocks from Ethel's McLean house. They have been there for several parties (they're not leftists, everyone comes to the big bashs) and they say they have never seen anything as nice as that house. Although I guess it may be possible that Ethel refurbishes the house a lot, also, I think she has been the only one living there for quite some time.
