BTW, I wonder if this quake has anything to do with the 8.1 quake at the South Pole?

Do you have a link for that? Thanks much.

Other Current Earthquakes / Largest-Ever Iceberg Hazard

We're not affected directly here in Australia but I wonder whether there's a connection between this massive quake and the one which hit in between New Zealand, Tasmania and Macquarie Island to our south two days ago. It was the then biggest quake anywhere in the world so far this year. It seems more than a coincidence that this catastrophe comes so soon afterwards. Commiserations to everyone in the affected area. An earthquake on a remote Antarctic archipelago home to 850,000 King Penguins was the strongest on earth in four years, seismologists say. The quake hit 400km (250 miles) off the Macquarie Islands on Friday, measuring 8.1 on the Richter scale.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand -- A remnant of the largest iceberg ever recorded is blocking Antarctica's McMurdo Sound, threatening tens of thousands of penguin chicks with starvation and cutting off a supply route for three science stations, according to a New Zealand official. The iceberg, known as B15A, measures about 1,200 square miles, said Lou Sanson, chief executive of the government scientific agency Antarctica New Zealand. He called it "the largest floating thing on the planet right now" and said U.S. researchers estimate it contains enough water to supply Egypt's Nile River complex for 80 years.

I think this disaster will be up in the hundreds of thousands dead - and millions displaced. Prayers for them and rescuers, and open hearts and wallets of those that can help.

Expect it to go to at least 30,000 if not higher. It is much worse than being reported.
