PVN backed the current PrimeMinister Manmohan Singh to the hilt when he was appointed finance minister in 1991.He asked Manmohan to take any decision necessary ,while he would give him political cover.India's economy was on lifesupport then as it had nearly defaulted on it's international debts, now it's growing at 8% yearly. PVN also established fullscale diplomatic ties with Israel, which in under 10years has become India's 2nd largest arms supplier. On the downside, his inaction on the Ayodhya mosque controversy, allegations of blatant corruption & inability to do anything about Paki-sponsored terrorism in Kashmir(which had just started out) will remain a black spot on his legacy.

The SW outsourcing industry is at least partly the legacy of
his tenure.

Free trade benefited India more than it hurt the US. Now we have a strong ally in India when our so-called allies (France, Germany...) are dropping like flies.

Umm,India's economic reforms started under in the mid 80s,under Rajiv Gandhi.Due to reasons of political expediency & compulsion & cruel fate,he couldn't carry it forward. This was done by PVN & it was carried on by every government sense, regardless of their political colour.PVN can be called the father of economic reforms due to his pragmatism & vision, but he was just a cog in a big wheel. His death means nothing to Indian politics or the economy considering that he has been out of politics for over 8years now.Every political party in India has come to recognise the necessity of reforms & this includes the wacky communists. The state which attracts the 2nd largest amount of Foreign investment into India is West Bengal, which has been communist ruled for over 2 decades.

In short,Those calls you get won't end.

I find it fascinating that India or an Indian company finds it necessary to hire people to post Indian propoganda on this site. This is not India Free Republic. Start your own site.

Yes, I have a problem with the number of Indian articles that have been posted lately. I wonder what the purpose is. Clearly there is a number of posters that seem to be either obsessed with India or perhaps are working in some public relations capacity.

I don't think it is appropriate for FR to be used to promote a country other than the United States and yet I am seeing that with many of the "India" articles that have been created.

I have a feeling that no complaints would be heard from that poster if a rash of Pakistani articles appeared -- he certainly doesn't protest the daily Chicom articles to the best of my knowledge. Why the prejudice against India?

& how exactly is India being promoted by these articles???Are they inviting Freepers(or anyone else) to invest in India,go on protests for India?-have'nt seen a clue of that .Besides, none of these articles have been anti-American in anyway. If you have a problem with the number of articles posted about India,China,Russia or anywhere else, you have to face reality. These countries are becoming important players on the world stage(& therefore for American foreign policy). If you have read my posts, you will have seen I do post on threads which have nothing to do with India.

PS-As long as one follows guidelines,I don't think there's any restriction on posting articles.

I do have a problem with other posters who are obsessed with promoting other countries as well. However, the number of India articles has reached a very high level. It smacks of a PR effort and I think it's pretty lousy to use FR that way.

If fails me how posting essentially an obituary is promoting a country. That's specious.
