No, I'm 99.999% sure being a creditor nation has nothing to do with it. You anti-China wackos really go off the deep end, don't you?

Oh, China being a creditor nation has nothing to do with it? Just must be cause Murdoch likes the country air in Peking. [end sarcasm]

China is a communist country & its interests are directly opposed to America's. Further, it is gaining power over America, as it buys billons of dollars of America's public and private debt.

I find both these disturbing trends, and I dislike Murdoch for cuddling up with such folks. If this makes me a wacko, so be it.

Clemenza - I deal with the PRC as well. And I completely disagree with you. You appear to be blind to geopolitics, you are blinded by economism. Have you ever studied what happened during Lenin's NEP? Well the COMMUNIST RED CHINESE government and strategists have, and they have learned to do it one better. They are seizing the means of production. Once that is accomplished, those clients of yours will be silenced.

"The 21,000 square feet home will have two stories underground and will be built from traditional grey bricks and roof tiles, including some from a former house on the site."

Sounds like a nice crib. Too bad he is so old that he won't be around long enough to really enjoy it.

She lucked out? I think Murdock made another strategic merger.

"Wendy Deng has managed to get Rupert Murdoch mixed up in the same kind of scandal that his tabloids are infamous for exploiting. His affair with the statuesque Yale MBA precipitated a messy 1999 divorce with Anna, his wife of 31 years. He and Deng married in 1999 and recently announced that she is pregnant, further complicating the issue of who will succeed him at the helm of News Corp. Murdoch has groomed a succession of his children--Elisabeth, Lachlan and James--to fill the top spot once he has shuffled off this mortal coil. But now Deng herself seems firmly in the running. She was working in Hong Kong for Murdoch's Star TV satellite outfit when she caught the magnate's eye; Murdoch was reportedly quite taken with her understanding of the Chinese media industry. "

She also has an MBA from Yale. She seems to be lot smarter than your average swingin, dick and the Deng family name tells me she is well connected.

He is buying influence and position for his son, who manages his Hong Kong operations.

Bump. An obvious PLA influence operative. Probably one of their best. Sex still works.

Remember how that other Chinese double/triple/quadruple agent had her FBI handlers wrapped around her finger?

Murdoch is such a fool. No fool, like an old fool.

Granted. Note the social whirl Rupert seems to be engrossed in, he and Wendy Deng at Cannes Film Festival:

Any idea where she originally came from in China and when?

Her U.S. history apparently includes the humble start as a "Media & Journalism" degree from Cal-State Northridge.

Possibly connected fact: After his wedding to Miss Deng in 1999, it appears Rupert Murdoch started giving sizeable donations to Democrat presidential candidates, a practice which he continued on into this election cycle.

Interesting side note:

Star TV, his pan-Asian company, has proved a better source of love than of money. He found his 32-year-old bride, Wendy Deng, there, but he has not made a bean out of the company since he bought it from Richard Li, son of a rich Hong Kong businessman, Li Ka-shing, in 1993. In India, the competition is strong. In China he cannot collect subscriptions because it is illegal to watch his channels—though Zhu Rongji, China’s prime minister, has admitted that his favourite television presenter appears on one of them.

Analysts reckon that Star is losing $50 million a year. And, to add insult to financial injury, a warrant was issued in India last year for Mr Murdoch’s arrest after he was summoned to appear in court, accused of screening vulgar and obscene films.

Murdoch might own FoxNews, but I would still classify him more as a mercenary, than a true ally.

Murdoch is a merchant; he sells things. Balance sells; he sells it.

If totalitarianism sold, he'd probably sell that too.

I hope I'm wrong, as I still respect lofty ideals (when they are coupled with sanity).

This is all part of a recent spate of activity. He's also buying a 3-floor penthouse in SoHo!

Murdoch flitting to record £22m penthouse, if neighbours like him
By Melissa Whitworth in New York (Filed: 18/12/2004)

Rupert Murdoch is buying one of Manhattan's trophy apartments for a record £22.6 million.

The 20-room penthouse apartment at 834 Fifth Avenue occupies three floors in a building opposite the entrance to Central Park zoo. It includes seven bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, servants' quarters, a library and a solarium covering about 8,000 sq ft, with 4,000 sq ft of terraces over the 14th, 15th and 16th floors. The monthly maintenance is £11,000.

The building on Fifth Avenue

But even the media tycoon's fabulous wealth will not spare him one of New York's most humiliating rituals: the approval process by the co-op board, in other words the neighbours.

The sale of the apartment will go through after Mr Murdoch, 73, has had every detail of his life, personal and financial, scrutinised by the board's members. The contract also requires the new owner to pay in cash.

At the moment, Mr Murdoch, whose personal fortune is estimated at £4 billion, lives with his wife, Wendy Deng, and their two young daughters in a penthouse in Manhattan's SoHo district.

The 6,000 sq ft apartment is in a building known as "the SoHo Chateau" in an area of Manhattan that was designed to provide accommodation for struggling artists.

The new apartment belonged to Laurance S. Rockefeller, the grandson of the oil tycoon John D Rockefeller. He bought the building in 1946 and turned it into a co-op six years later. He died in July aged 94.

Mr Murdoch's neighbours are a collection of the rich, famous and infamous, including the disgraced former chairman of Sotheby's, A Alfred Taubman.

Edward Lee Cave, an estate agent, said: "It is one of the five best apartments in the city. It is everybody's wish list complete, because the first thing people say is, 'I want a terrace,' then they say they want Fifth Avenue, then they say they want high ceilings."

She is a real cutie.

Yes, they will be around to enjoy that wonderful house. More power to them. They should be ready to beat feet to eh gold old USA at the first sign of trouble in the Middle Kingdom, however.

As an update to this 12-04 thread, there is a link on Drudge,"Murdoch 74;steps out with daughter 3". I do not know if you(or someone) would be interested in posting a new thread. I find his life and business dealings interesting.
