I tend to agree that we're not going to strike Iran unless threatened militarily.
But it's still pretty obvious that the US has positioned itself very well for that very contingency.
Furthermore, the importance of having two bordering countries (Iraq and Afghanistan) with freely elected representative governments and national constitutions cannot be understated. The strategy here, obviously, is that the Iranian people will look next door and say "Us too".
Not saying we don't need a decent defense against ballistic missles, however the real threat to me is a nuke attack coming from on board one of the hundreds of thousands of shipping vessels that come across the ocean unchecked every year. I believe much more scrutiny and checkpoints need to be established to protect our country in this area.
