I guess John Kerry, who has never held an executive position of any sort, would have done a lot better in vetting his personnel.

I believe Kerry served as lieutenant governor, which I think could be described as an executive position.

Kerry might not have done better, but he couldn't have done a lot worse. The libs are having a field day with this and the Bush administration handed 'em the sword.

Not at all, the system worked fine. The guy never became the DHS Secretary. The process worked. The disqualifying information was discovered long before any confirmation hearings were held. TOWNSEND might end up getting it now. The lib press is trying to make it an issue, that's all, no one I know even cares about it. Do you think anybody remembers Senator TOWERS anymore? I can hear the hand wringing at the "L Street Worker" (Wash Post) and "NY Slimes" all the way from Guam. Semper Fidelis.

Despite hours of confrontational interviews by the White House counsel, Alberto R. Gonzales, the Bush administration failed to get a full picture of the legal and ethical problems of Bernard B. Kerik, its nominee for homeland security secretary, a government official said on Tuesday.

Well, this is not exactly reassuring.

He not only missed the red flags, he missed the flashing lights and the siren as well.

Gee, Lizzie! Can't you read your own report.

There seems, from your scribblings, a full-court stonewall
on the part of the interviewee to present a rosy picture
instead of honest disclosure.

And yet....you seem to think the White House was at fault.

Still in Bush-Bash mode, are we?

The basic problem is based on not wanting to control the borders. When Rove and Bush get a clue, life will be soooo much easier.

Until then let Bush and Rove stumble and sweat every move.

Convenient for slighting Gonzales as well. Kerik withdrew, leaks & post-mortems by NYT et al just serve their agendas and contribute nothing over all.

The New York Times is hell bent to destroy anything that does not support their America sucks template.

History is fleeting for those who read that rag.

The memory hole is gaping wide open to accept Clintons pardons and Kerrys treason.

But Bush, hell, if he fails to shine his shoes, or lacks the intrinsic wisdom of Ted Kennedy or Pinch Sulsberger, he is to be forever damned on every page of this waste of trees publication.

Kerry's an idiot.

This is the silliest thing I've ever seen. Kerik's out, yet the Post and NYT keep on.

An epidemic of PEST, if you ask me.

The basic problem is dumb-ass disease.

You got it bad.

Frankly, I'm not convinced he wouldn't have been fine for the job, problems and all. I thought we had proved with Bill Clinton that personal character, as regarding finances and one's sex life, was no longer a consideration for the highest office in the land. I'm a lot more concerned about a WMD attack on a major US city than I am who this guy shacked up with. I want someone in that position that's going to kick ass and take names!

Anything resembling a misstep by the Administration is megaton-amplified by these nattering nabobs. There will be plenty, real and imagined, to keep them busy - how could there not be?

Do you remember Zoie Baird? I do. And while I did not think her indiscretions were unpardonable,I did think that disqualifying her was a just and necessary consequence of her actions.

To even intimate that it's okay for our guys but not for them is just plain wrong. I can't understand how anyone can't see that.

To try to defend Kerik is to lose any future ability to argue the other party's selections and appointments based on moral turpitude and/or ethical, legal problems of the candidate.

So, Mr. Chaste, who is your candidate?

Is it the Virgin Mary, or just merely the Pope?
