Geez! Why would anyone marry him, now?

Oh yeah, money...

Personally, I have mixed feelings about cosmetic surgery. I'm not sure if I would do it. However, the surgery your girlfriend underwent was her decision to make; it is absolutely none of my business.

I am a defender of individual freedom above all else.

It is ironic that on a website such as Free Republic -- where so many others also defend individual freedom --- that there seems to be an intellectual inconsistency when it comes to this topic.

The article is not saying it 'causes' suicide but merely pointing out that those who get augmentation may not have the highest self esteem to begin with....which is not really a stretch...;)

The plastic surgeons I know tell their patients not to smoke for obvious reasons.

So all this talk of how unstable women are when they get their boobs done is alot of crap.

It's not about *when* they get their boobs done...it's about *why* they get their boobs done and, for most, it is that they don't accept their own appearance and believe somehow that bigger charlies will solve the problem.

The underlying problem is a lack of self-acceptance (self esteem, self image, etc.). And many people who suffer depression exhibit the same trait. Doesn't mean all women who have breast surgery will commit suicide or that all suicide victims had breast implants but I can see some connection between the two.

I file this under the "No Shit Sherlock" heading. A woman willing to shove a huge blob of toxic, foreign substance into her body because of her poor self-image or to satisfy some lard-butt on the sofa is almost certainly more at risk for suicide.

I agree. I think over time this same trend of mental illness, suicide and plastic surgery will continue. It will be more than breast augmentation. Women are doing more and more plastic surgery believing it will some how change their lives or change who they are inside or make some man love them more etc. etc. When it does not I am sure they are more than a little disappointed. It is really pathetic to witness and see encouraged in the popular culture.

Do hotel desk clerks count?

Yeah they are way up there with the car rental counter girls. I'll never forget one sweetie in Odessa......oh never mind.

Interesting, not too surprising though. I know a few people that have had the surgery, and they're, as a rule, a little less stable than most.

**How about when they are a 32 A. They are getting abuse from not only men but from women as well. **

I'd say a better circle of friends/acquaintances would be in order. For pity sake...

Opinions have been shared on this thread. It's still legal to have opinions.

Even thought the numbers were small, it was statistically significant. There are more than 250,000 breast augs/year in the US which gets up into bigger numbers. The difference counts.

A new study adds to evidence that women with cosmetic breast implants have a higher rate of suicide than other women and shows, for the first time, that they may be more likely to have a history of psychiatric illness as well.

Well, no s**t! Why'd they get the implants in the first place? Low self-esteem, that's why! Let's look at the underlying causal relationship, folks.

I shot one once. Only one shot. Good thing my 250 pound buddy was behind me, or I'd have been on my ass (I only weigh 150). I'm not sure why it was ever developed. Any ideas?

My daughter is 27 years old. She wears a 34A. She doesn't gripe, nor do her boyfriends since she has been dating since she was 18. Some of her girlfiends have big boobs and they don't frown on my daughter.

It seems to me one has to be selective about friendships, or the mentality of those with whom you associate.

Anyone cuts my nipples off, shove bags inside my chest, then sew my nipples back on.... well... I'd be suicidal too...
