Pinochet saved Chile. And these are the thanks he gets.

Meanwhile Erich Honecker still lives.

Viva Pinochet!

He saved Chile.
And idiots around the world prance around wearing Che Guevara tee shirts.

Anyone caught wearing one should be shipped off to Havana or Pyongyang.

...and Jaruzelski, and Castro swans around the globe unmolested, celebrated and feted...

Pinochet saved Chile

Chileans paid a very high price in torture and death.

Well, if he didn't have these people killed without trials, then he should be found not guilty.

And Gorbachev, Aristide, Ortega, the commie clowns from Poland, Hungary & former USSR states, Castro, Mugabe, LittleDong Ill, Assad, the Iranian mullahs, Mandela, the Sudanese junta, the Tianamen Square massacre leaders, and Chirac are all free. Pinochet is/was better than each and every one listed above.

Pinochet is one of the great men of the cold war. He saved South America from communism. The men that were killed were soldiers in an unconventional war, and he killed far less of them than the communists would have killed of their opposition had they won.

Anti-communist military dictators are given wide latitude at FR.

I thought that a deal had been made in order for Pinochet to agree to step down from power. Behold, this reneging doth not justify his enemies.

The price in torture and death would have been exponentially higher if the "insurgents" had won.

Question for you, would the "insurgents" have stepped down at any time once they were in power?

Didn't Pinochet simply lose a re-election bid?

I fear other countries will pay a higher price for bringing Pinochet to justice.

By going after Pinochet we send a message to other dictators that if they willfully leave power and go into exile they will be punished so they might as will dig in their heels and remain in power causing a lot more suffering and death.

Bummer. He did the right thing for Chile, which at the time suffered tremendously under a Socialist government that was tearing the country apart...

I don't know what would have happened, but seriously, how can you defend Pinochet? He murdered thousands of people.
