Except he made the universe...and even the concepts of
emptiness and fullness! ("He stretches out the heavens like a curtain...")

He does not appear to be embracing religion at all, on the contrary, he is simply pointing out the obvious, that we don't know everything about the world and until we do, we should not make up things to support our case.
I don't quite come to the same conclusion you do after reading that paragraph. While not expressly stating his belief in God, to me he is shifting the burden of proof away from deism. That shift is where he departs from the typical evolutionists, which require the proof burden be placed on believers in God.

Unless he accepts Jesus as the Son of God he is still pretty much toast. It's a BIG first step.
I was atheist for years, finally accepted the fact that there had to be a God, and soon after recognized Christ as Lord. That was more than 30 years ago. I have NEVER doubted Jesus is the Son of God since that day.

There was no one moment of change but a gradual conclusion over recent months for Flew, a spry man who still does not believe in an afterlife. Yet biologists' investigation of DNA "has shown, by the almost unbelievable complexity of the arrangements which are needed to produce (life), that intelligence must have been involved," Flew says in the new video, "Has Science Discovered God?" Also at 81 he may not want to take any chances.
