The metal contingency here at F/R is a minority unfortunately. : ( We are an UNsilent minority.

It shouldn't take a fan to see that this is a legit breaking story, like the Great White fire last year.
At least it's in breaking news now.

Laws which prohibit concealed or open carry only serve to disarm the law abiding citizens.
The criminal element will always possess, carry and use guns regardless of signs, laws, rules, regulations or suggestions to the contrary.
A law abiding citizen, with a concealed weapon, probably put an end to the slaughter.

Apparently not all mass murders (of which a public figure is among the dead) are equal.
To: KoRn
Terribly sad. He was young, he seemed to be a genuinely decent guy and he was an AMAZING guitarist. Prayers out to his family and his band members.
I'm going to break out my Pantera c.d.s and have a good cry now.

And we ended up with 5 threads of the same news as a result. Maybe Tall Happy is a sidebar mod....

There are a few of us incognito types.
This is terrible. Many of my music students are inconsolable. I would turn them on to FR but it seems like there is a contingent here that thinks because some people express themselves differently it is Satan or Devil worship. I would hate to be so one dimensional.

LOL... I saw a new Queensryche DVD a few months ago. I'm pleased to inform you that Geoff Tate sounds exactly the same- his voice is still amazing- but now he's as bald as an egg.
Are we officially "old" yet? :D

Yep getting up there.
Knowing I was 17 when Cowboys From Hell came out and my freinds and I playing it all the time...well those were the days.

Was a heroin addict? I thought he still is. Unfortunately, to get clean the person has to WANT to get help, and sadly, IMO I don't think Phil is there yet.

reminds of lyrics to a country song:
Nineteen Somethin'
Mark Wills
It was 1980-something
In the world that I grew up in
Skating rinks and Black Trans Ams
Big hair and parachute pants
Lookin' back now I can see me
And oh, man did I look cheesy
But I wouldn't trade those days for nothin'
It was 1980-something
BTW, I had big hair also in those days. :)

He started off as "Diamond" Darrell when Pantera was a hair band. After the hair-band craze died down he switched to "Dimebag". Pantera was considered a "drug band" by many (esp. after everyone found out the lead singer is a heroin addict).
I have no knowledge of DD's beliefs, but I do know that Pantera broke up because of the drugs and there seemed to be some 'changes of heart' among the band members in the past couple of years.
