Third Day was great at the GOP Convention. I'd never heard of them but I am now buying their cd's. Great band.
cbs is just discovering Christian rock?
Once in royal David's city
stood a lowly cattle shed,
where a mother laid her baby
in a manger for his bed:
Mary was that mother mild,
Jesus Christ her little child.
He came down to earth from heaven,
who is God and Lord of all,
and his shelter was a stable,
and his cradle was a stall;
with the poor, the scorned, the lowly,
lived on earth our Savior holy.
And, through all his wondrous childhood,
he would honor and obey,
love and watch the lowly maiden
in whose gentle arms he lay:
Christian children all must be
mild, obedient, good as he.
For he is our childhood's pattern,
day by day like us he grew;
he was little, weak and helpless,
tears and smiles like us he knew.
and he feeleth for our sadness,
and he shareth in our gladness.
And our eyes at last shall see him,
through his own redeeming love;
for that Child who seemed so helpless
is our Lord in heaven above;
and he leads his children on
to the place where he is gone.
Not in that poor lowly stable,
with the oxen standing round,
we shall see him; but in heaven,
set at God's right hand on high;
when like stars his children crowned,
all in white shall wait around.
There were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. Luke 2:8-9
------------------------------------------------------------------------
George F. Handel (1685-1759)
Words: Nahum Tate, 1700;
first appeared in Tate and Bradys Psalter, 1702.
While shepherds watched their flocks by night,
All seated on the ground,
The angel of the Lord came down,
And glory shone around,
And glory shone around.
Fear not! said he, for mighty dread
Had seized their troubled mind.
Glad tidings of great joy I bring
To you and all mankind
To you and all mankind.
To you, in Davids town, this day
Is born of Davids line
A Savior, who is Christ the Lord,
And this shall be the sign,
And this shall be the sign.
The heavenly Babe you there shall find
To human view displayed,
All meanly wrapped in swathing bands,
And in a manger laid,
And in a manger laid.
Thus spake the seraph and forthwith
Appeared a shining throng
Of angels praising God on high,
Who thus addressed their song,
Who thus addressed their song:
All glory be to God on high,
And to the Earth be peace;
Good will henceforth from heaven to men
Begin and never cease,
Begin and never cease!
Frankly, I am not impressed when Flood from Jars of Clay or (what many mistakenly believe to be a Christian band, Creed) hit the secular airwaves.
Nor when Switchfoot does so (though Switchfoot rocks, any Christian message they carry is really really veiled).
POD just is a bunch of apostates pretending to be Christians.
We should not be impressed when such groups make it into the secular airwaves.
Why? BECAUSE THEY MAKE IT ON BECAUSE THEY ****COMPROMISE*** A CLEAR PRESENTATION OF THE GOSPEL IN FAVOR OF A VEILED, PUZZLE SONG APPROACH IN WHICH YOU HAVE TO GUESS WHAT THE HECK THE SINGER IS TALKING ABOUT.
They could be seen just as easily as referring to secular love half the time as the love of God.
The only time I am genuinely impressed is when a CLEAR AND NOT WATERED DOWN VERSION OF THE GOSPEL MAKES IT ON THE SECULAR AIRWAVES.
About the only example I can think of is MercyMe's "I Can Only Imagine." I hear it on several secular radio stations around here quite a lot.
It has made a major dent in the secular airwaves, which is amazing.
So has "More to this Life" by a female artist whose name I have forgotten.
But, for the most part, CHRISTIANS ARE MAKING IT ONTO THE SECULAR AIRWAVES ***BECAUSE THEY ARE SELLING OUT***.
"Can't you see you're not making Christianity better, you're just making rock n' roll worse."
STRIPES REUNION!!!

I saw Third Day Saturday in Belton too. Good music, great message.
Locally, (central TX) Doxadeo is another awsome rock/pop/alternative band. I'm predjudice though, their also our Sunday morning worship team.
"Keep on rockin' with your free will"???
rock 'n' roll
noun ref. to a specific style of popular music is attested from 1954, from rock (v.2) + roll (v.). The verbal phrase had been a Black Eng. euphemism for "sexual intercourse," used in popular dance music lyrics and song titles since at least the 1934s. Shortened form rock first attested 1957.

Hoochie Coochie and Praise the Lord!
Oh heck, I've heard all the arguments. I've been slinging rock guitar since 1968.....and playing exclusively in evangelical church praise and worship teams for the past seven years or so. I'm no kid. I'm 49 years old and, if I may say, a pretty passable guitarist. I have the privilege of playing with some SUPERB musicians and vocalists, and NO one can hear what we do and accuse us of "watering down" the message of Christ's love and redemption. That is patent nonsense, spoken only by those who haven't a cluse what they're talking about.
The church I currently attend (I'm their lead guitarist) is pretty sizeable, and yes........we're well known for our music. We're loud, contemporary.......but we can play anything that helps a congregation enter into either praise or worship, equally. I've seen for years the effect music can have on congregants, and I've seen how it can draw people to church and help keep them there.
I wholly disregard the naysayers. Besides........remember this: If it's too loud, you're too old.
But, with the exception of one "reggae" Christian song I heard once (pretty good and I could dance to it), Christian "rock" is an insult to both Christianity and Rock and Roll...
Sorry, I don't mean to offend anyone. Christ is my savior.
"Rocking for Christ".....i.e. the latest fashion in "born again" bumper sticker theology. God reaches His people spiritually in His own time. And thank God, He doesn't depend on these head banging idiots and their half baked arminianism to do!

Rich Mullins was definitely one of the greatest there's ever been, even though his music wouldn't necessarily be considered rock.

This is a great station, you can listen on the internet and also check to see if they have a broadcast station in your area.
