He knows this, works with it, understands that a snap of his fingers isn't going to give him his way.
It takes time for change, wet-her it been seen as good or bad, for that is how our system is structured and anyone that feels Dubya isn't doing a fabulous job under the circumstances, doesn't see the gradual changes for the better coming about because of his Presidency, is one who doesn't understand our system as put forth by the "forefathers"!
How do you blame this on Duncan Hunter? His sticking point was honoring the Chain of Command when it came to the control of spy satellites. He wanted to make sure that commanders on the ground would have immediate access to those satellites so that the safety of our troops wouldn't be subject to some bureaucratic games playing. He wasn't raining any immigration objections so how exactly did he sell out?

The Dems/left screaming at them is one thing, but when Bush urged the bill be passed today, these guys fighting for immigration reform were basically left on an island. I can't say I'd blame them if they did cave.
Unfortunately, survival within the power structure plays a role, no matter how altruistic and correct the contrary argument being advance may be.
You seem to have allot of those symptoms.
I heard , (somewhere ) that there is huge money going to certain Senators PACS to keep the borders open to allow the cheap labor to continue to flow across the border.....
Particularly, McCain and Lieberman.....
This battle is yet to come.......
The border flow needs to be slowed down to a trickle....
Well, I guess we will just have to look at the final vote on this bill. If more Democrats voted for this bill than Republicans, you can bet it is not worth the paper it is written on.

He and Sensenbrenner had promised each other that they would not let the White House negotiate with them seperately, that they'd work together. Hunter (up until now) has had a good record on immigration, he's part of the Immigration Reform Caucus, he knows what's at stake. I'd might feel differently if he and Sensenbrenner hadn't publicly said they were supporting each other, but Hunter let the White House pick him off. Not that it matters, I don't think the bill does anything that isn't just cosmetic with the immigration reform provisions out of it. It was our best chance to try and get some sensible immigration reforms, now it's just Washington bilge so the congresscritters can say they passed a reform bill.
2006 is going to be a prime year for us to really shape up the Senate.
We have shots to replace Chafee and Snowe with real conservatives. Jeffords' seat is open, we have a good shot of taking that back. There's talk that Conrad's seat is vunerable. For the hell of it, we can have fun trying to derail Hillary and Teddy's reelection campaigns.
Corzine is running for NJ governor, and his term is up for the '06 election cycle, so he won't be a contender for reelection. My state is definitely leaning more conservative lately, I think because of the disgust over McGreevey. Taking Corzine's seat is a possibility.
You inarguably imply that President Bush is nothing but a gutless coward who cares nothing about our security. Or did I miss something? (sarcasm on)

There are some good ones ripe for forced retirement, unfortunately, McCain was just re-elected. Did you hear him say that he is going to consider a presidential race in about 2 years? Ugh---I can't understand why any border state Senator would be soooo against immigration reform unless he is getting something from it.
As far a Bush goes, I know his nephew is hispanic so it may be more than just business for him. I truly think he has an affinity for hispanics. He has always named a lot to his staffs here in Texas and now Wash. I guess for that reason I am not quite as "mean" about his reluctance to put in an airtight border in the south.
We know that the US does Billions of dollars worth of business with Canada (not to mention getting oil from them) so he isn't going to rock that boat, so how could he be hard core on immigration. Not excusing him necessarily, but just food for thought!!
Well, Bush got what? 44% of the vote in NJ? For a state that used to be an ultra-liberal fortress comparable to Massachusetts, I'd say not too shabby!

Unfortunately, we have to wait till '08 to try to give Hagel the boot. Getting rid of Biden and Harkin would be oh-so-sweet too.
OKAY--I have officially had it with the 9/11 Families (the ones that have Kristen Breitwiet as a member)--- I just saw a clip of one giving a statement saying that she was proud that congress didn't give in to politician just "protecting their turf" and bullying the other congresspeople. Made me want to throw something at the TV.
I have one question: Once this stinkin' bill gets passed, can those families please go home and leave the rest of us alone!!! I am tired of them trying to act like they can run congress because they act like they are the only Americans that have lost loved ones unexpectedly!!!! Have they EVER thanked the TROOPS?????????//////
This is Dubya mis-spending his "political capital". I hope he is more careful in his future spending, or a lot of hard work has been for naught.
