Hell no - why not call it the self defense act? - It named thusly to silence opposition.
I did no read this article. I do know that we need tougher laws and regulations in place to protect our country. Forget the freedoms if there is no country to express them...
How many of you have put your life on the line for these freedoms? (Don't answer unless you have served or are serving in the Armed forces or a law enforcement agent).
After two tours in Iraq and one in Just Cause (Panama) I have lost many.
We need something, if not the patriot act then what? Don't complain, give us a solution.
=== Anyone who says this clearly is completely ignorant of both the History of the Nazi regime and the realities of the Partiot Act 2. It is really funny how those who scream loudest in American politics repeatedly demonstrate both their complete ignorance and their hyper partisan political bigotry.
Additionally, they're probabliy totally ignorant of the fact that Nazis oversee our biology texts and -- along with Japs who engaged in human experimentation -- informed our military and became members of our NIH.
As for the police state -- it's decidedly "former Soviet" in profile given the big bucks we're paying the likes of Kalugin (retiring in January), Primakov and our latest gem of a consultant Markus Wolfe, former head of the Stasi in East Germany.
Nice bunch of guys. I'm sure they're the perfect A-Team for overseeing the transformation of Amerika.
Lots of us swore to defend and protect the Constitution. You've done more than most but the Constitution nowhere says that citizens 1A rights are limited to those who served.
I think most of this Patriot Act hair on fire stuff is crap. For those who oppose parts of the legislation they should post those parts they oppose so we can have an honest discussion.
Taking the word of the ACLU and lefty law professors at face value is prima facia evidence of the onset of Alzheimers IMHO for what its worth.
The same thing could be said about calling it the self defense act -- it's named thusly to silence opposition
Gee, all good sounding names would silence the opposition, so maybe we should name it something bad.
That said, the unPAtriot Act we currently have needs to sunset and go the way of the ugly gun ban.
If I may barge in, I think he meant the Reichstag Fire in 1933 - the terrorist attack on the German Parliament which led to the special national security laws - Decree for the Protection of the People and the State
Comrade, if you're not hiding anything up there, you shouldn't mind a government procto exam.
Ever yeard of the "Barbary Pirates?"
They went and kicked Muslim ass. They didn't turn the guns on all Americans, out of misplaced political correctness.
A FReep rally against President Hillary Clinton?
I think the Patriot Act II would find its greatest utility if we were to exploit it to the hilt to detect, investigate and arrest Al Qaida operatives, remnent Mukhabarat operatives, ISI operatives, PRC intelligence, other intelligence agents and those false flag recruited by them, in the following places:
* The corporate community
* The military
* The GOP
* Groups who claim to be supportive of the GOP
This may seem strange, to focus on "big business" the military and our own ranks and supporters. However, think about it. Where will the enemy have the most interest in being, in terms of gathering info, sowing disinfo, and generally exerting influence?
FYI....
I have heard that aspects of this Patriot Act II have been hidden in the Intelligence Reform Bill that passed the Senate yesterday. I am unable to find this though except for a National ID card thing. This bill is difficult to wade through. Can anyone else confirm or deny?
Only Republicans could get this stuff passed...if the dems tried it...conservatives would never go along with it...
There is only one man in this nation who can deliver up conservatives to the New World Order
and have them ask for more of the same....
imo
