A lot of Christmas traditions were lifted straight from older holidays:

Saturnalia, Yule, and the Mithraic "Feast of the Unconquered Sun", to name a few.

ALL of them celebrated the triumph of Light and Goodness over Darkness and Evil.

"Wasn't Karenga some kinda felon too?"

Here's the truth about the REAL Ron Karenga:

It seems the founder of Kwanzaa wasn’t any more ethical than those who sung its praises. In fact, at the same time Al Sharpton was glorifying the new holiday, its creator was sitting in a California prison for torturing two black women who were members of the United Slaves, a black nationalist cult he had founded.

The cult leader Ron N. Everett went by the name Karenga and in the 60’s took upon himself the title "maulana," which means "master teacher" in Swahili. He was born on a poultry farm in Maryland, the fourteenth child of a Baptist minister. He moved to California in the late 50’s to attend LA Community College. He later moved to UCLA, where he got a Master’s degree in political science and African Studies and by the mid 1960’s, he had established himself as a leader of the black movement- a self described "cultural nationalist". He had purposely used the term "nationalist" to distinguish his group from the Black Panthers who were Marxists. He wanted a separate black state while the Marxists worked for integration.

The friction between his group and the Panthers mirrored the centuries of tribal warring in Africa. Both groups were heavily recruiting at UCLA in the 60’s and vying for control of the newly developed African Studies Department. Karenga and his group backed one candidate for dept. head and the Panthers another. Both began carrying guns on campus and on Jan. 17. 1969, about 150 students gathered at the lunchroom to discuss the problem. Two Panther members had been admitted to the college as part of a federal program that helped black high-school dropouts enter the university. The meeting turned violent and ended with two of Karenga’s group, George P. Stiner and Larry Joseph Stiner killing two. The Stiner brothers shot two Panthers John Huggins, 23 and Alprentice "Bunchy" Carter, 26 – dead.

UCLA chancellor Charles E. Young, scared that the violence would hurt admissions said "The students here have handled themselves in an absolutely impeccable manner. They have been concerned. They haven’t argued who the director should be; they have been saying what kind of person he should be." The remarks were made after the shooting and the university went ahead with its Afro-American Studies Program. Meanwhile, Karenga’s group grew and performed assaults and robberies always following the law laid down in The Quotable Karenga, a book that laid out the "True Path of Blackness." "The sevenfold path of blackness is think black, talk black, act black, create black, buy black, vote black, and live black,"

On May 9, 1970 he initiated the torture session that led to his imprisonment. The torture session was described in the L.A. Times on May 14, 1971. "The victims said they were living at Karenga’s home when Karenga accused them of trying to kill him by placing crystals in his food and water and in various areas of his house. When they denied it, allegedly they were beaten with an electrical cord and a hot soldering iron was put in Miss Davis’ mouth and against her face. Police were told that one of Miss Jones’ toes was placed in a small vise, which then was tightened by the men and one woman. The following day Karenga told the women that ‘Vietnamese torture is nothing compared to what I know." Miss Tamao put detergent in their mouths; Smith turned a water hose full force on their faces, and Karenga, holding a gun, threatened to shoot both of them. The victims Deborah Jones and Gail Davis were whipped with an electrical cord and beaten with a karate baton after being ordered to remove their clothing."

Karenga was convicted of two counts of felonious assault and one count of false imprisonment. He was sentenced on Sept. 17, 1971 to serve one to ten years in prison. After being released from prison in 1975, he remade himself as Maulana Ron Karenga, went into academics, and by 1979 was running the Black Studies Department at California State University in Long Beach and converted to Marxism. Kwanzaa's seven principles include "collective work" and "cooperative economics." He is still there and everyone has almost forgotten the cruel and vicious attacks committed on his fellow blacks. Kwanzaa has been successfully marketed and is now heralded as a great African tradition.

The silver lining is that rather than "de-whitinizing" Christmas as Al Sharpton purported – it has polarized the holiday season -Hanukkah for Jews, Kwanzaa for Blacks, and Christmas for whites.

What's shocking about this "de-whitizing" of Christmas is the background of the founder of it.

The founder of Kwanzaa is Ron Karenga. Karenga's real name is Ron N. Everett. In the '60s, he awarded himself the title "maulana," Swahili for "master teacher." He came to California in the late 1950s and moved on to UCLA, where he got a Master's degree in political science and African Studies.

If you do a little digging, Ron Karenga has a bizarre criminal past involving charges of torturing two women who were members of US (United Slaves), a black nationalist cult he had founded. A May 14, 1971, article in the Los Angeles Times described the testimony of one of them: "Deborah Jones, who once was given the Swahili title of an African queen, said she and Gail Davis were whipped with an electrical cord and beaten with a karate baton after being ordered to remove their clothes. She testified that a hot soldering iron was placed in Miss Davis' mouth and placed against Miss Davis' face and that one of her own big toes was tightened in a vise. Karenga, head of US, also put detergent and running hoses in their mouths, she said." The trial showed him to be not just brutal, but deranged. He and three members of his cult had tortured the women in an attempt to find some nonexistent "crystals" of poison. Karenga thought his enemies were out to get him. Karenga was convicted of two counts of felonious assault and one count of false imprisonment. He was sentenced on Sept. 17, 1971, to serve one to ten years in prison.

It looks like you and I were Googling Ron Karenga at the same time.

Thanks for posting this story. It's important once in a while to expose these frauds like kwanzaa, jesse jackson, klinton, klinton, the center fuel tank exploding, etc, etc.

Kwanzaa is about on the same level as Seinfeld's "Festivus", right down to the "Airing of Grievances". LOL

the Christmas-season exploitation of African Americans.

What exactly is that? How is it that "African Americans" are exploited at Christmas? I can't think of any single way race plays into the Christmas scene. Can someone enlighten me?

Paging Mr. Kerenga ...

""We pledge allegiance to the red, black, and green, our flag, the symbol of our eternal struggle, and to the land we must obtain; one nation of black people, with one G-d of us all, totally united in the struggle, for black love, black freedom, and black self-determination."

Those who celebrate Kwansa may or maynot be aware that their 'leader' was a separatist who wanted an 'independent black nation' with the U.S.

Basically, they wanted the U.S. to give them their own country within our borders or take it on their own through 'revolution'.

Kwanzaa is from East Africa, not West Africa. Black Americans are from West Africa, not East Africa. Kwanzaa in Africa is not even a big deal and most do not even care. West and East African culture and language are different from each other. If an West African went to East Africa, they would be seen as a foreigner.

Then, why did blacks feel a need for a newly created holiday? White people didn't dream this up. There should be equality, not segregation or preferential treatment.

This was merely an effort to give blacks extra "religious" holidays, hence extra "holiday pay" with non-blacks excluded.

Christianity will remain under assault by the Left until we put an end to the Left.

Call me a minimalist but there it is.

There's a link to a story at WND about a group of 700 lawyers who are "ready to fight ACLU lawsuits. Legal group's 'Christmas Project' designed to protect public schools".

700 lawyers ready to fight ACLU lawsuits
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1287344/posts

Is it illegal to sing Christmas carols in public school? Or to display a manger scene or even to say the words "Merry Christmas" in those halls of learning?

Many public school officials act as though such prohibitions were clearly laid on in the Constitution and defensively ban every vestige of "religious expression" out of fear of an expensive ACLU lawsuit.

But this year, help is on the way: An army of 700 lawyers is being deployed to protect America's schools from the ACLU grinch.

Ha! A little too slow at the keyboard.

There's no shortage of goods on this huckster. His offical site says: "Dr. Karenga holds two Ph.D.'s; his first in political science with focus on the theory and practice of nationalism (United States International University)
Isn't USIU some cheesy diploma mill where they give out degrees for banging out a thesis on your life experience?

A little Kwanzaa History!

So This Is Kwanzaa
Lynn Woolley
Monday, Dec. 17, 2001
You don’t like the current slate of holidays that we celebrate here in America? Then why not create one of your own? That's exactly what Ronald Everett did back in 1966. He named it "Kwanzaa."

Since then, many people have embraced this new holiday. Check out almost any appointment calendar and you'll find it duly noted on Dec. 26 that "Kwanzaa begins." Stroll through your local card and party store and you'll find Kwanzaa items.

You can even look it up in the World Book Encyclopedia, where you'll find a nifty little article that says Kwanzaa was created by "a black cultural leader." And those who celebrate it will often tell you that it's not just for African Americans.

They're not telling you the whole story; in fact, it's doubtful that they even know the origins of Kwanzaa. Few people do, because the voluminous amount of ink expended on Ronald McKinley Everett most often refers to him as Dr. Maulana Karenga and rarely examines his past.

However, the story of Ron Everett, aka Dr. Karenga, has been told – notably in a Dallas Morning News article from Dec. 26, 1996, and in David Horowitz's late publication, Heterodoxy, in the December 1999 issue.

The story behind the holiday and the man who created it is most interesting.

Forget the notion that Kwanzaa is a holiday for all people. Dr. Karenga states that he created it at the height of the black liberation movement as part of a "re-Africanization" process – "a going back to black."

Dr. Karenga, still just "Ron Everett" at the time, was heavily involved in the black power movement. He started an organization called US. The letters have nothing to do with "United States" but mean simply "US," as opposed to "THEM."

He dropped the Everett name, adopted the Swahili one, which means "master teacher," shaved his head, and began wearing traditional African clothing. US members, similarly attired, often clashed with other black militant groups such as the Black Panthers. The fighting was about which group would control the new Afro-American Studies Center at UCLA.

There were incidents involving beatings and shootings, including one in 1969 in which two US members shot and killed two Black Panthers. Dr. Karenga had other run-ins with the law, including charges that he abused women.

In 1971, he was convicted of assaulting female members of US, and he served time in prison. An LA Times snippet describes the torture of the women as involving a hot soldering iron placed in the mouth of one, while the other's toe was mashed in a vice.

Dr. Karenga says that he is the victim; he was quoted in the News: "All the negative charges are in fact disinformation and frame-ups by the FBI and local and national police."

One thing that's interesting to note about the inventor of Kwanzaa: Practically all of his crimes were committed against black people. And yet, today, he is simply known as an academic who created a holiday for cultural unity.

Nine years after Kwanzaa was invented, Dr. Karenga decided to moderate his views and became a Marxist. In 1979, he was hired to run the Black Studies Department at Cal State Long Beach, in all likelihood, the first ex-con to do so.

And so this is Kwanzaa. The militant past of the creator is now ignored in favor of the so-called seven principles of Nguza Saba – principles such as unity, family and self-determination that could have come from Bill Bennett's "Book of Virtues." The word "Kwanzaa" is Swahili, meaning something like "fresh fruits of harvest."

No one remembers the part about "re-Africanization" or the sevenfold path of blackness that Dr. Karenga once espoused. Hardly anyone remembers the shootings, the beatings, the tortures and the prison terms that were once the center of his life. It's just not PC to bring that sort of stuff up now that Kwanzaa is commercialized and making big bucks.

Dr. Karenga does his part to promote the holiday and forget the past. In December, he goes on his annual "Kwanzaa circuit" of speeches and appearances. And he writes.

Remember that little article in the World Book Encyclopedia that legitimized Dr. Karenga as a "black cultural leader"? You guessed it – he wrote the article himself.

Happy Kwanzaa.

No, kwanzaa isn't even from east Africa, it isn't African at all. It was a Southern California invention, and is celebrated essentially no where at all.

I've about convinced myself to take the good "Doctor's" bio and the REAL hostory of Kwanzaa up to my kids school and ask them why they are foisting this fraud on my kids.

Another blues state insanity. Where does the word Kwanzaa even come from? Anyways, if an African saw Kwanzaa celebrated, he would never care and scouff at it. Most Black African who come to America usually shun Black Americans.
