TC, if you're serious about a gun range, then consider the NRA Foundation grant program. We love to give money to youth shooting programs. HC, if a tax number is needed, maybe the club you guys shoot with will sponsor the program...?

I just spent the weekend approving (in committee, of course) grant requests that ranged from 500 to 26,000 dollars for 4-H'ers, Boy Scouts, rural range clubs, and others.

Please get with me when you're ready, and I'll help you with the grant request.

LOL!

I'm sitting here laughing because that's the way I expect a child to answer. They tell it like it is.

I'll have all those things he mentioned.
How about two tree houses with a rope bridge between?
(Enclosed, of course!)

Thank you, Jimmy!

You're going to have to talk your mommy into bringing you down!

If y'all remember Tom Hank's performance in "Big"…

Hank’s character in ‘Big’ had the idea of an interactive comic book for children. Why not let the children get together in groups and make up their own super hero characters along with a positive story theme. You could take digital photographs (or let them) and make it into a comic book with the children as the main characters.

They could take the comic book home as a reminder of the weekend knowing that they were involved in its creation and that they were/are heroes.

Of course campfires, hiking, and camping are always fun. (oh, and model rockets – kids love those)

Rifle range for .22 (single shot rifles would be best & cheapest to buy).
Pond for fishing.
Hiking trails.
Pony rides.
Petting zoo for younger kids.
Some way of letting the kids help take care of your livestock.
Swimming hole would be great too.
Archery.
A nice bonfire area to have fire in safely.

I hope you will be able to do stuff like this & not take a beating on the liability insurance. Just make sure you have enough coverage! Be sure to screen your applicants & your staff. You're gonna need trained staff...

Thanks, Dog!

I'll need your advice on which attorney to draw up these waivers. I know you don't deal in this kind of thing on a regular basis.
Since my attorney doesn't think they are worth the paper they're written on, I need someone who believes in them.

Years ago we went to farm setting kids playground. One item that went over well was a hay-wagon ride through the pasture with animals. There were several buckets of feed pellets. Kids and adults would hand or through the pellets to the cows, deer and mules. One cow wrapped her tongue around my wrist and sucked my whole hand into her mouth. No harm done, just a bit slimy, but it cut down on the hand feeding by the kids that watched me.

The wagon was wrapped with large opening mesh. It kept the kids on the wagon as we rode through the woods and field.

All of those things I'll need, Keith.

I plan to have a big open air pavilion with a bar-b-que pit where we can cook during good weather, and several small pits where the kids can roast marshmallows and weinies.

The firearm safety help I'll need. I can only instruct like the Marine Corps instructed me, and I don't think the kids would like that.

You know, I hadn't even thought about hiking trails!
Of course, I'll need those!

I plan to have only baby animals except for the milk cow and the horses so there will be a constant shuffling of animals - babies being brought in and big ones taken out.
I have an eight foot game fence in place so I will have some exotic deer, but they'll just be for the kids to watch.

When I first thought of the milk cow, I had this vision of a cow standing on a child's foot (because I had that experience when I was five!) so that activity will have to be closely supervised.

Right now, I have one nurse, two vet assistants and several helpers lined up to help, but you're right. I need some trained volunteers.

Oh!

Nearly forgot!

You HAVE to have a tire-swing!

It's iconic!

HJ, I didn't even know about the NRA grant program!

I'll check that out.
Anything I can do to defray the expense out of my pocket, I need.

Here's the link for you:
Saddle Club

Hair, this gentleman is starting up a camp for underprivledged kids, and may need some advice on setting up a stable. So I directed him to the thread.

What an idea!

I can already envision that in my mind!
A man down the road from me raises mules. He could get me a couple to pull the wagon.

"You HAVE to have a tire-swing!"

Of course! I had forgotten that, but it's the only kind of swing I ever had as a kid.
