We love Va. Beach, but our children who are stationed on the Enterprise are being transfered to Pensacola after the first of the year, so we will not be visiting the area for at least three years. He is an officer and they would like to go back to Norfolk, but with the Navy you never know. They have been lucky as he has been either at Norfolk or Oceana for 17 years.

Where is this picture taken? We used to live in Lake Arrowhead, but now in West Tenn. I miss the mountains so much.

A friend of mine was out 4 wheeling at some place called truckheavan near the Salton Sea, east of San Diego. They had to leave early Sunday, 'cuz the gullies were filling with water. Nobody could remember the last time that happened.

I'm a Wyo native myself! I live in Vegas now, though. :(
Its like being in a small club when you're from Wyoming.

Wow! I was just through some of these places last month and would never have thought it possible....Twentynine Palms!

It very rarely snows in Palm Springs, and even more rarely sticks to the ground. In 1978 it stuck to the ground and they sent us home early from school because they were afraid the buses couldn't get through. By the time we pulled out the parking lot, the snow had melted.

I just find it so weird that SoCal has all that snow while those of us in the northern half of the state are enjoying a sunny day in the low 60's. Not that I envy my southern neighbors...nope, not at all. I had no idea how cold it could get in the snow until a flat tire stranded me in Tahoe overnight last winter and I had to endure a -13 degree night in a cheap motel with a broken heater. I had no idea that cars could ice up like that, and nobody told me that using hot water to get rid of it was a BAD idea (windshields are so expensive nowadays).
I guess I grew up in a bubble...it's only snowed around my home twice in my entire life, and neither of those instances dropped anything that stuck. Snow, outside of short visits for a few hours at a time 2-3 times a winter, is one of the most detestable things about winter. I don't know how those of you back east handle it every year.
