I'm a little late getting here, but thanks for the pings.

Now, I need to decide if I want to go to the swearing in ceremony, or participate in the support Bush rally. From what I have read, it is going to be difficult to do both. I guess it will depend on what location we are able to secure for the ceremony.

Kristinn, thank you for everything you do. I am looking forward to meeting you in person.

We'll try to be there! I would LOVE for my daughter to see the parade and President Bush! Okay, so she is only two, but I can tell her that she was there.

Even if the hotels are packed, you could stay in the suburbs and take the metro down. The metro map at http://www.wmata.com/metrorail/systemmap.cfm
can tell you what the suburb towns are along the route. Some hotels might have bus service to the metro; if not, there is a good public bus service, at least in Montgomery County, MD.

This may be a silly question, but why is it hard to do both the swearing in and the parade? They're fairly close together aren't they?

Do not book a DC hotel unless someone tells you the neighborhood is safe.

ooopsie! Well I already live, travel, and work in the most notorious areas of Dallas, so DC shouldn't scare me!

ooopsie! Well I already live, travel, and work in the most notorious areas of Dallas, so DC shouldn't scare me!

The most obvious difference between Dallas' worst neighborhoods and Washington, DC's is that in DC the victim pool is unarmed. That rule is pretty much the same for all of Maryland, too. Virginia is more trusting of its citizens.

The badboyz in this area know that fact very well, and behave accordingly. Japaneseghost's advice is good advice.

Stay safe and I'll see you at the Ball!

Thanks for the heads up! I've traveled quite a bit and have a way of blending in. I'm rather invisible really, so I hope you can see me at the Ball!!

Heya Kristinn -- looks like I'll be coming with at least one other person from Georgia to hit up the inauguration proceedings. Please ping me with developments :)
