Could someone please tell me what “uxorious” means?

As loser Maureen used the word here, she's referring to gay marriage.

But would someone enlighten me as to why John Effing Kerry-Heinz is described as "Brahmin"? That refers to the Hindu priestly caste, as I recall. Didn't know that Kerry was also an Indian. :-)

Brahmin also refers to the Boston elite.

Something tells me Dowd secretly lusts for W.

I think you're right: (from the column)

"Of course, W. was swaddled by three strong women - Laura Bush, Karen Hughes and Condi Rice - who cleaned up after his political messes."

What she means by cleaning up his political messes, is left in Dowdie's alcoholic haze, and yet she always leaves you knowing she is tremendously jealous of Laura.

“The Republican Visigoths are crushing checks and balances and driving Democrats … into subservient, obedient roles ... ."

And that is bad because … ?

Oh! I didn't read her statement correctly, I thought she was serious about the moderate Republicans part

Welcome to FR.

We "tolerate" moderates here as a means of achieving more diversity and understanding.

I am a proud Visigoth and I enjoy crushing nuance

LOL

To paraphrase Sally Field "You tolerate me, you really do."

"...a chesty President Bush and Dick Cheney prevailing by making the case that they could protect America from vicious terrorists and uxorious gays better than the Brahmin they painted as a sissy."

Uxorious

I think she also is implying a similarity between "red state" view of gays-who-want-to-be-married and the "red state" view of Kerry.

I guess you don't run into words like that in public school, not in the last 40 years, anyway.

All of them. This is not even a list of particularly esoteric words. Thirty years ago you would find them used regularly in all sorts of books and occasionally in the newspaper. As the vocabularly of the English language continues to increase, the practical vocabulary of public school educated Americans decreases and writers write for a population with an ever contracting ability to read.

My thoughts exactly!

But I still don't get the "swaddled" reference.

1)To wrap or bind in bandages; swathe.
2)To wrap (a baby) in swaddling clothes.
3)To restrain or restrict.

Whatever usage is she referring to?
What a freaking nut.

I didn't read the article at all. I saw her on MTP w/ her sidekick who kept calling her 'Mo', william safire.

Here's the truth: it is a waste of time to pay any attention to this modern day furie. The only people who listen to her are those who are not clever enough to do simple math.

The bottom line is that she was badly screwed by her Dad in the past; we'll never know the truth of what he did to her. But we do know how stupid she is regarding the men she hangs around now.

the stupidness is clearly reflected in her writings.

Dowd will dry up and blow away only after everyone sees she doesn't even merit an 'alert' anymore...

Lots of other leftist writers are more worthy of scrutiney; e.g., is it just me that has noticed that R. Dawkins is all of the sudden on a bunch of science programs in the MSM outlets? That man is a definite problem ...

Use them in one sentence? Piece of cake.

The organizers stood akimbo facing the triptych esconced catafalque, punctilious in their abstemious reaction to the eulogy that was aborning brio, eschewing torpor and eminating with a celerity from the speaker's desiccated face.

According to Bob Dole, Lyndon Johnson was berating an aid about not being able to make it golfing one Sunday.

Lyndon Johnson: "What are you, a man or a mouse?"

Aid: "A man, sir, my wife is afraid of a mouse."

The new Total B!tch SNL Weekend Update with Tina Fey and Amy Poler did a number on Dowdy last night.

I love it when they eat their own.

Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney... [cast]...John Kerry as the feminized guy who couldn't get his sports references straight, the sort who would sashay about in Yves St. Laurent pajamas, dithering, whither-ing, and fetching bottled water for Teresa while the burglar alarm rang.

I love the use of the verb "Cast",like it was all made up.That is exactly the image that Kerry sent out.
Nobody forced him into the dork NASA suit. Nobody forced him to mention "Lambert field". Nobody put him on the surfboard, the bike or the skis. Nobody forced him to drink special water and demand his hair brush from his valet.
Maureen, Kerry was not "cast" as a arrogant rich sissy, Kerry "IS" a arrogant rich sissy.
