And in case you didn´t know: I supported the war against Iraq and am still doing so.
>>>
No, that's not what I recall and it is news to me...I remember you supported Afghanistan and then you ripped America, Bush, Intelligence and the entire concept of ending Sadam's Iraq, let alone disrupting the Iran-Israel land bridge of Nuclear Muhammadan states with long range delivery systems. So which is it? I'd love nothing more than to find out I've been wrong about you...
We were right to do what we've done in Iraq, and we shouldn't be weenies about the costs of finishing the job. But at the same time, we shouldn't be relying on bogus facts to support our positions.
I agree with you...
Michael knows what I'm speaking to.
He can sure get folks to believe things that aren't true. He should make a good politician.
With your ignorance of history, you could get a job as a speechwriter for North. There was no "government of Adenauer" in 1945-46. During the first part of that period, he was mayor of Cologne, a position from which he was sacked during 1945. When North Rhein was constituted in 1946, he was the head of a political party and was in the state legislature. North Rhein became North Rhien - Westfalia later that year, and he continuted to hold such a post. See my posts above for more timelines and links.
Ok, I recall that it was you having me reproached with that some months ago. But even then I told you, that this wasn´t me. Others might confirm that I have been advocating the toppling-down of Saddam since my very first day here and that I even after we found out that there were no WMD I think that it was the right thing to do. If you want to say so, you can call me a German hawk. ;-)
exactly!
Michael, I've had conversations with you before, and I know that you've advocated the toppling of Saddam. Maybe we differ on a few of the details, but you've been on the right side all along. Thanks.
BUMP!

Great thread! Thanks for posting it!!!
I served on occupation duty in Germany for four years (1947-1951) and things were pretty calm then. There were drunken brawls, but no terrorists attacks.
You don´t need to thank me for thinking logical and according with the basics of humanity. There is nothing wrong in knocking out evil. That´s a lesson the Left still has to learn: Tolerance and Appeasement must not work with evil.
On 6 June 44 we killed 900 Americans on the D-day invasion beaches in three hours of imprecise bombing. We killed 700 in a training accident 10 days before (drowned in the North Sea).
Our WWII combat veterans would marvel at our soldiers' good fortune today.
Very good point. It is only people with no historical perspective who are screaming about our casualties in Iraq as being more than they can bear. None of us revel in war or a single American G.I. being harmed and we grieve for their loss. But did we REALLY expect the war on terror would be won on the cheap? I really thought by now we'd have lost 10,000 dead military men and women in the war on terror. If you had told me after 9-11 that 3 years into the war on terror we'd have suffered fewer than 1500 dead in Afghanistan and wherever else the war took us, I'd have said you are nuts! As you say, we've been quite fortune, as sad as the losses we have endured have been.
the vichy gov't of northern france was basically a puppet regime of hitler's. to this day many in southern france despise the northern french. there were also a number of "puppet" mayors in alsace and portions of southeastern french who were sympathetic to the nazis, although many historians believe this was because they simply did not want to be murdered themselves.
france has been a dichotomy for many centuries.
