I don't think so. Fred Barnes (on FOX) was saying that Powell never intended to serve more than one term, but the cleaning house needed to be done no matter who was running state because many of these Democrat partisans were openly working against Bush, trying to take him down and that they obviously gave him bad information, maybe not intentionally, but nevertheless bad. Bush could not trust or depend on them.
Bush probably just told Powell if he's decided to leave, he ought to make the break now rather than hang on a few months more as a lame duck. That's the call most leaders/managers would make, with a well qualified replacement in the wings.
"It's going to be a whole new world" at the agency, the NBC'er said. "
Awesome! Let Bush be Bush, indeed, I say!
Thanks for the heads up, I didn't know that. I think Condi will be great at the State Dept.
I would pay money to hear her first conversation with the French in her new capacity.
Someone on FNC (I can't rememer who) said yesterday that President Bush had the least resignations of the last 6 (six) administrations
Andrea Mitchell said NOBODY FIRES COLIN POWELL. Evidently she was wrong. As usual.
Mitchell said that Powell's replacement, Condoleezza Rice, has received a "mandate" from President Bush to "clean house" at the State Department.

If so, I expect to see a spike at DC hospitals in the number of career diplomats needing pumps surgically removed from their butts very shortly.
Yeaaaahhhh, baby! Yeaaaahhhh, baby! Yeaaaahhhh, baby!
Thanks, I have to remember that
A Clean House in State?!?!?! About damned time!
And I am THRILLED with Rice; all the talking heads, including Pat Buchanan, are saying that she doesn't have what it takes to go toe to toe with the big boys.
Perhaps they should ask this guy what he thinks.
Agree. Why have Powell in the middle of the Mideast efforts and then quit and start with Condi? Bush intends to move and move fast.
Also, Powell has had 4 years to clean house and he has not done that. Why let those deadheads clutter up future efforts.
Condi is a total team player, which worries me a little. I don't think a rubber-stamp cabinet is a healthy idea. Bush needs to hear, understand, and consider all kinds of ideas before he makes decisions.
You could never tell it from the MSM; they act like they are so relieved that somebody is finally leaving, almost like it proves there is something wrong with Bush, they knew it, and now this is the proof!
They are drooling becasue of Powell, I tell ya! "Most liked person in the administration."
I would pay money to hear her first conversation with the French in her new capacity.
