Don't put Lugar in such a visible post. Secretary of education?

Lugar is already the Chairman of Senate Foreign Relations. I would perfer to have a collar around his neck and be Secretary of State. I think Lugar will do more harm in his present position.

Lugar and Hagel are on the top of my you-know-what list; I will NEVER vote for them for anything.

Of ALL the Republicans, I trust LUGAR the least.

You bet. He & Arlen are bad news.

I think it's a good idea for one thing, seeing as Lugar is or should be fixin to retire soon after years of honorable (if not always perfect) service, and think Chris Chocola would be a good choice as a replacement.

Lugar is a nice and honest guy, but is a spineless moderate. Lugar would make a bad Secretary of State. The best thing about Lugar getting the S of S job would be to get him out of the Senate.

Can we mess with the Senate and appoint Kerry to some minor Cabinet position, thereby allowing Romney to appoint a Republican?:)

Unless Bush just wants a face to put a more moderate tone to his foreign policy.

The difference is that Powell has always been loyal to the Bush family. Lugar has no such history.

What Lugar lacks in loyalty, he makes up for in lack of spine.

Why would Bush pick Lugar for anything? Lugar went around bad mouthing the President during the campaign.

Orville Redenbacher.
Even though he's dead now, he's still head and shoulders above the two turkeys Indiana has in the senate now.

I don't know that I'd put him at the very top of my list, but he would sure be a top contender along with Specter, Chafee, McCain, Hagel, etc. There's so much competition, it's a tough decision.

I'd love to see Mike Pence, from the 6th IN district get Lugar's seat. He's a rock solid conservative, and very supportive of the Pres, although he voted against the Medicare drug plan (a vote I happen to agree with). He'd make a great Senator, but doesn't have a lot of name recognition.

I really, really, really, really, really, really don;'t care for or trust Lugar.

Get someone good. Lugar -- retire, self-publish your memoirs, disappear.

Actually .. with the political capital the President now has .. the President will appoint someone who will clean house at the State Dept .. just like Porter Goss is doing at the CIA.

While I would relish having Gov. Daniels choose a GOP senator to replace Lugar, I would NOT want to see lugar as SoS.
