"Any speculations about the Picts?"

Related to the Scythians and/or Xiongnu?

From what I understand (limited IMO) I would venture to say the Scythians. It seems to reason that a people who could take 40 days to mourn a fallen tribesman, would have the free time to construct a shamanistic megalith.

That and when I say "Pictish" I myself assume the Scottish national pose... "Blondes from the North noted by the Caesars" leading me to think "Aryan" over "Mongol."

Again though, I feel my understanding is VERY basic on this level.

This might be old to you, but a few months back I saw a show on History Channel. It showed how the Egyptians may have used kites to move their blocks and erect the oblisks at such great distances. The eventual conclusion was that a similar principle could have been used on the megaliths.

All one needs is a few people to keep the kites from running wild and enough rope with a support system to place the blocks with precision.

One of the (many) problems with kites as prime movers, IMHO, is the requirement for huge amounts of extremely strong cables -- and organic fiber ropes won't fit the bill.

You owe it to yourseif -- if you haven't done so already -- to do as I did in my #13, above, and view all the movies on Wallington's "The Forgotten Technology" website.

Oh yes, I saw those. Sheer genious. Wouldn't put it past the ancient peoples either. And given the resources, it would make more sense for the Aryan tribes to imploy his methods to make the megaliths.

And yes, they did come across that "problem."

They made/found adequate organic fibers to perform the tasks. The egyptians were a people who also sailed, they had the knowhow to produce such items.

They also sited the hyroglyphic images. On all the known images they found with simple wings (maybe with a head) the proportions were always the exact same used in making a level-flying kite.
