BUT THAT WOULD BE "AGAINST THE CHILDREN" AND AGAINST OUR PHILOSOPHY OF DECREASING THE SIZE OF GOVERNMENT AND BRINGING MORE POWER BACK TO STATES AND LOCALITIES, A CONSERVATIVE POSITION TRADITIONALLY.
(sorry to shout just now!)

I nominate Bill Cosby for Secretary since the department will not be abolished. Cosby would be a real coup for Bush.
To: BladeLWS
I heard on the way in to work this morning a DJ urging President Bush (in absentia) to appoint Bill Cosby as Secretary of Education. That sounds like a very good idea in my book.

Hmm. It would be a shame to lose Paige from public service. RNC should consider prepping him to run for office, if he is willing.

"Education Secretary Rod Paige called the National Education Association a "terrorist organization" Monday as he argued that the country's largest teachers union often acts at odds with the wishes of rank-and-file teachers regarding school standards and accountability."February 23 of this year. That was pretty funny.

How about Newt Gingrich? Teacher's Union bosses all across America would spontaneously combust, opening the path to reform. ;)

Me toooooo................now's the time to axe (?) the department of education......give it back to the states, get the gooberment out of our lives and communities one step at a time.

Actually its hard for me to type right now when I hear the Education Secretary is resigning. BWAAH! BWAAH! How will we survive even a single day without an Education Secretary. :-)

Well, the Coz is a good dude, but as I remember, he father ed a child out of wedlock and then tried to deny it. Was it ever proven to be his child? If so, you can't have someone like that in the President's cabinet.

Does Rod Paige have a future in elective office? He's another great potential candidate from Texas---we really have an embarrassment of riches there. Why couldn't Paige be from Arkansas or Nevada or Washington or Illinois or something?

I think Newt would do a good job in *any* Cabinet post. He'd be especially good in Education, though.

That would be GREAT! I don't think Newt would do it, but I would LOVE to be a fly on the wall at NEA headquarters if it happened.
