At about 3 pm today, I was just thinking that Diogenesis would surely post a series of pics from Fallujah.

You're the best! Thanks again for the info.

Our troops need a holiday surprise. Gone for another year, we need to send them some Holiday cheer. We are starting our Stockings for Troops Campaign. We would like for all of the men and women in the military to know that they are not forgotten this holiday season. Please help by donating a stocking and an AT&T phone card so all our military members may call home and share the holidays with their families.

The Syrians were claiming a few days ago that they would be more diligent in preventing foreign fighters and terrorists from crossing their border into Iraq.

Sounds like they've been watching the election returns too.

President George W. Bush received the largest vote and mandate in American history.

Nixon was elected over McGovern by getting eighteen million more votes than McGovern.
I don't see how Bush's mandate is larger than Nixon's.

Okay...any easily offended, skip this post

A mighty fine speech it was. The real speech, not the movie speech. My favorite line: (updated for 2004)

...The bilious bastards who wrote that kind of stuff for the Saturday Evening Post Mainstream Blame America First, Leftist Media don't know any more about real fighting, under fire, than they do about f**king....

Patton sounds like a real ass kicker!

My impression after seeing these pictures of the "insurgents" is that you'd have to be very unlucky to be killed by such a motley rag tag bunch of clowns. These people are cannon fodder in the purist sense of the term. The biggest danger will come from booby traps.

That photo is clearly staged. The mortar has no aiming mechanism.

Actually there is. It is right by the guys thumb on his left hand. It is so basic as to just about qualify as not being there at all. It is a flat piece of metal on the right side of the tube that can be adjusted for the degree of inclination desired for the tube. There is a SMALL spirit or bubble level on the rear left side of the flat metal sight. The flat metal sight is bent up 90* on each end. The forward end has a peak or point and the back end has a notch, forming a sight pic that looks sort of like this....

-^- (aiming) or |___________| right side view.

You preset the degree of inclination for the tube by adjusting the flat metal sight, point the tube in the general direction as it is impossable to observe the bubble in the level while looking down the sight and then adjust the angle of the tube by centering the bubble in the level. You can see in the first pic how the guy holding the tube is looking down at his hand, that is where the "sight" is. Good luck hitting anything.
