Much the same story here in Pennsylvania: Philly went totally for Kerry, while the rest of the state was either Kerry lite or went for Bush.
It's in the cities where the Demos retain any wallop they still have.

Everything that you have stated in your posts is true regarding the source of Demo strength.
It is in their interest to continue the pathology.
