All this shows is that most of the Independent voters went to Kerry in those counties. The Bush campaign did not do a good job getting out their base there. Also, Republicans in the mainline counties tend to be more liberal than in the rest of the state.
This needs to be fixed by the time Santorum runs for reelection in two years.

Bush takes the Gore Counties of Clare, Manistee, Alpena, Ogemaw, Iosco, Roscommon, Calhoun, Iron(UP Dem stronghold), and Macomb.
Bush only loses Alger(UP) from 2000.
Bush improves his numbers in most dem leaning areas(did the same in Saginaw/Bay, lost ground in Washtenaw and Detroit).
He improves on most GOP areas outside of Kent County, especially up North, Livingston County(exceeded goal by 10,000 votes, and in Ottawa).
Detroit has more votes now - while dropping population(Another 30,000 drop from 2000). The percentages were almost exactly the same too. Riiiiiiiight.

As soon as things settle a bit I intend to start hammering our legislators to shine some light on Detroit. I assume you'll be working toward the same goal for the next election.

I'm going to be hammering on the vote fraud bigtime. Time for some reforms
1. No Punch cards
2. Picture ID with address to vote required.
3. If someone does not drive and wants one to vote, one shall be provided if asked.
4. Third party groups (IE AFL-CIO, NAACP) have no standing in election related lawsuits.

Toomey 06! Interesting thought. Do you know if there has been any "official" speculation about his running for governor? Has he indicated any interest?
