I have a feeling that a President who's wife and mother are both very strongly pro choice, is not going to do anything precipitate, in other words, the nightmare scenario people have of a sort of evangelised crusader in America is an improbable one.

First things first. Let's get that ANWR pipeline going and tell OPEC to sell dirt.

Bush says X (strict constructionist nominees).
Political punditry says he means Y (abortion on demand).
Amazing.

Sadly, I agree. I don't see him appointing judges to overturn Roe V. Wade. I think he'll do 'like his daddy done.'

"Christopher Hitchins endorsed Kerry."
I thought I read that that "endorsement" was an error and that it was corrected later.

Get Spincther off the judiciary committee.
To: zarf
Hes right. I think Bush sees the realities of the world we live in. There is no need for an amendment prohibiting gay marriage--Bush is a states' rights guy, and the states are taking care of it.
Making abortion illegal right off the bat will never, ever, ever happen. Support for abortion is dropping because of various reasons, but mostly because we're just getting the info out there. The number of Americans who see abortion for what it is is INCREASING.
If we just suddenly made it illegal, we could very easily fall into a huge, huge mess, the dems could take over EVERYTHING, and abortion would be locked in forever.
Patience and drawing people to our position through the facts will change everything.
To: areafiftyone
Hitchens endorsed Kerry? Big surprise to me! Where did you hear that?

If Bush betrays the social conservatives by nominating a pro-abortion judge to the supreme court....
The Republicans will be thrown out of power in 2 years in a Liberal Landslide because the social conservatives will just stay home.
Luckily I dont think that's going to happen. Bush is a very simple man who always does exactly what he says he's going to do... and he has said time and time again he will only appoint people to the bench you will strickly interpret the law....

pro-abortion judgeI don't think that's relevent. Bush essentially wants to nominate judges that would leave the abortion issue up to the states.
