politics 101: concentrate on winning close races, don't expend resources on others...
How much closer does CA have to get before the GOP starts expending resources there again?

"...was the first Republican president since the great Calvin Coolidge to get reelected..."Coolidge, like LBJ, was not "re-elected." Coolidge became President when Harding died, ran for the office himself in 1924 and then declined to run for re-election in 1928, stating that two terms was enough for any one man.

Here is the data in graphic form. It indicates the states where each candidate won certain ranges of the vote percentage. Note that while Kerry won 62% in Massachusetts, Bush won by more than that in AL, ID, NB, ND, OK, UT, and WY. (Another darker color could have been added for the 62-71% range to reveal this, without affecting any Kerry state.

The first image should have TX in dark red! Here is the correct map (and note that there is a small flaw in that a candidate who wins with less than 50% is still in the 50-55% category.)

I had the ND and SD colors flipped. Here is the corrected version. Here is the corrected version (a work in progress, if NM or WI flip?)
