After spending a highly visible lifetime in a relatively small city where information -- particularly about media and politics -- is the coin of the realm, Brit Hume may be one of the best-known people in Washington.
The basics: He's the managing editor and chief Washington correspondent for the Fox News Channel and has long been a rabble-rouser in a trade where one rarely earns popularity points for rousing the rabble. As a young reporter he drew the wrath of Richard M. Nixon and had the distinction of being shadowed by the CIA for several months. The spooks' code name for Hume was "Eggnog," in wry tribute to his youth and his light blond hair.

For those readers gobsmacked by that information, consider that the future presidential candidate and TV news power broker were only about 4 feet tall and shared a passion for cartoons instead of politics. They met in kindergarten and hung together through fifth grade.

Hume learned he had the soul of a muckraker -- journalism's fond name for those hardy investigative types who stir up the muck to expose misconduct -- and would later land a job with one of its masters, Jack Anderson.
With the aid of assistants, Anderson wrote a widely syndicated column called Washington Merry-Go-Round. But Hume, who joined his staff in 1970, quickly became the star pupil by making one of the column's most sensational scoops when he got hold of a memo that proved International Telephone & Telegraph Corp. had contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to fund the 1972 GOP convention in return for which the Nixon administration dropped an antitrust investigation against the company.

He looks a least twenty years younger than Kerry. Are you sure you are not talking about Hume's father?
Sadly, I see Brit Hume as part of the media establishment trying to show how 'fair' they are by allowing the lies of the left the same credibility as the truth.

This probably won't be a popular comment in some quarters, but it's pretty tough to be 60+ and still be sexy--man or woman. IMHO, of course.

for your info, conservative women take more than looks into consideration when conjuring up images of what is sexy or not... we're not so shallow as to think someone is sexy because they have "nice hair." heck, take a poll here, and i bet Dick Cheney would be considered sexiest man alive... (sure, we like his looks; but we especially appreciate his mind, spirit and "gravitas.")

Back in the day, I really enjoyed This Week with David Brinkley when Brit was on the panel or part of a segment. Special Report follows a very similar format.

I had quite a crush on Cheney--I remember back when he was running in the primaries for Prez--what year was that? And I thought, "That is one very attractive man! " I also found his wry, underestated personality unusual in politics . He can say more with a lifted eyebrow than anyone I've ever seen. Never could understand this "mean" rap he's gotten--nobody is as cool, courteous and quiet as Cheney.
Yeah, I like Neil too and I watch as much as I can but he sometimes tells it like it is to people I like........hehehehe
Moreover, I don't expect every broadcaster to adhere to my particular idiology nor do I expect anyone here to either.
Out of curiousity - who is holding elected office today do you consider a 'true conservative'? Not why.. just a name.
