When I told a lib I know about this weeks ago, he angrily said there would be no need for a draft "because all those on active duty or in the guard/reserve will be kept in *for the rest of their lives* by stop losses, or Kerry can always take care of this with a simple executive order."

Burkett and Glenna Whitley, Harkin falsely claimed in his 1984 Senate bid, to have flown combat missions over Vietnam in F-4 and F-8 jets. He repeated that claim in his 1992 during his presidential bid but confronted by Barry Goldwater, Harkin recast his story to have him flying jets over Cuba, but finally had to admit that he ferried damaged aircraft to the Phillipines. Harkin now refers to himself as a Vietnam-era veteran.
