Within historically short time (40-50yrs, probably earlier given most recent oil prices) Middle East oil will be depleted to the point where there will be no alternative to coal/oil conversion. At that time ME will lose all geostrategical importance.
Given the traditions and mores of native ME populations, what sane person would even dream of gainfully incorporating them into some united system like world government?
The Russian aim in ME are of economical (they are oil exporters) and geostrategic nature. Both can be only short- to middle term.

The founding of Israel and Pres. Bush's intervention in Iraq certainly threw a monkey wrench into plans for a pan-Arab confederacy! But try to explain that to the American people....forget about it.

Jerusalem is the mid-point of the Middle East. Many people and groups throughout the ages have used Jerusalem and the Holy Land as their foundation on which to work out their world-view from.

All of the great "leaders" of history and today are going to realise very soon however that the Master of the Universe has other plans in mind for that part of the world, and for the entire world. The current day "leaders" of the world will have to submit to a higher authority very soon, for their own wellbeing and for the wellbeing of humankind.

I've never seen this before, but as a Christian who follows biblical prophecy, I'm always interested in Russian machinations regarding Israel, since Russia is almost certainly the prophesied invader from the north.

Naturally, the formation of the state of Israel in 1948 began interfering with Communist plans.

By the way, Stalin (for all his faults) was the first to recognize Israel and the Arab armies were led by British and French officers.
