Hey, I'm not arguing that Dubya is some saint. I don't think he is, remotely, and if there were any possibility of electing a pro-defense candidate besides Bush, I'd give it very serious thought.
But Buchanan's endorsement is too late to help and soon enough to hurt. Given that Buchanan has been smeared left and right (pun intended) as an anti-Semite and racist by the neocons, socialists, and communists, there is no doubt that the impression the undecided have about Buchanan is generally unfavorable. Buchanan knows this. JFK can make ads about how Buchanan endorsed Bush and Buchanan knows THAT, too.
I don't love Dubya, but I trust him on the most important issue in this election. I don't trust him any more, and given the taint has stuck, notwithstanding my belief that he is neither racist nor anti-Semitic, I don't think he's a good representative for the cause. I don't disagree with Pat on as many issues as I do Dubya, but I wouldn't vote for Pat again even if he promised to do EVERYTHING I want, simply because I don't believe him.
But here, Buchanan reinforced my belief in one thing: he's out for himself.
