We need to save off all the threads, articles and opinion pieces by all the Iraq-naysayers when Iraq is stable, free and holds it's first elections.

We need to begin to hold some of these pathetic false-prophets of doom to their pathetic predictions.Mr. Global Pest, and others like him need to have their voices recorded so we can later recount how wrong they were so they will never be trusted again

We can probably just cite the entirety of the CBS archives in our open ridicule.

All their predictions of death in the terrible Afghan winter and defeat by the battle-tested Republican Guard have disappeared into oblivion. Why should their present predictions be any different?

I'm gonna grab 100,000 soon ;)

If it does in fact return to 32c per dollar, that turns $150 into $30,000?

It would be interesting to hear your views on the 15,000 plus civilians who have been killed so far in this war. Men, women, and children just like you, killed by our military, based on what we now know is a lie-there are no weapons of mass destruction, and never were.

Whether Iraq succeeds from here on out will not bring those people back to their families, and will not change the huge effect this has had on the United States credibility with the rest of the world.

I for one take "do not kill" seriously, no matter whose country it is in. We attacked a nation of people already devastated by years of sanctions, and we murdered about 15,000 of them. I wonder how "free" those 15,000 people feel now??

Thanks Troll, Your commentary is appreciated.

There are alot of deaths in Iraq. But the ironic thing is...

5000 children were dying each month in Iraq under Saddam.

What are the numbers now?

In Jan. 2004 the Dinar went from 1,400 to 1,000 once the new currency came out.

QUESTION: Thomas Gorgussian, Al-Wafd, Egypt. Secretary Taylor, I have two questions for each gentleman. (Laughter.) A short one, I mean. Excuse the three questions. It's all finance and everything. Secretary Taylor, how and when you are going to solve the issue of Swiss dinar and Saddam dinar and American dollars? Secretary Larson, the issue of international participation -- I mean, is there any part of it for the regional countries, mainly the neighboring countries, whether they Arab or not, I mean, including Turkey, Iran, others? And Secretary Zakheim, my question is related to the law and order in the streets. After this moment, American troops and Marines are the ones, and unfortunately some clashes taking place. Recently, maybe a week ago, we heard about that Albanian troops are going to -- or some people from Muslim countries are going to guard Islamic centers or mosques in different places. Is there -- what is the vision of law and order, policemen, not Marines or military with uniforms?

Thank you.

UNDER SECRETARY TAYLOR: Sir, on the currency question, as you know, there are three major currencies that circulate and are used within the territory of Iraq: the old Iraqi dinar used before 1990, sometimes called the Swiss dinar; the second is the current dinar; and the third is the U.S. dollar. And we have emphasized that all three, and any other currencies that are in circulation, are acceptable for means of payment. There is a flexible exchange rate where the exchange rates between those are determined. As I mentioned before, the dinar has depreciated in value a lot in the last 12 years. Right now, we've seen some stability in the currencies, and I think that's very good. The payments that the United States is making to workers is now in U.S. dollars. It's a very stable, acceptable currency and it's welcomed by the people. In a number of cases, we've also made payments in dinars, if that's more convenient to people. With respect to what will ultimately be decided about the currency, that is a decision for the people of Iraq to make. And we're going to be very happy to work with the international community. The International Monetary Fund has already begun to work on this, but to give them the assistance that they need to make it a smooth operation -- and just one comparison with Afghanistan, if I may -- we also gave advice to the Government of Afghanistan, and when they came in, and they had the interim authority, they decided that they were going to do a new currency. We assisted them, and it was a very successful operation. That may be how it works in Iraq, but it's really their decision.

Not sure about the legitimacy of that site though. Looks legit. I'm optimistic of it rising, though.

You are seriously in need of moral clarity if you consider military action in defense of a country's interests "murder". I suspect you don't consider abortion murder, however. I also suspect that you don't consider any military action justified.

If you had moral clarity, you would see that war is inevitable: especially between those who would harm and those who would defend the helpless (like the Iraqis). You cannot fight evil by appeasing it nee-Neville gummy-headed-yoda...

Finally, you are clearly amoral and likely not one to feel as those who typically post to FreeRepublic.... Moderator?

Unless we can control the border, I'm afraid they'll find their way back via Canada.... Either that or Canada will build them a statue

Saddam averaged about 100,000 a year.

What do you think about that?
